You are going to be in school a while. My schooling was 4 months on weekends. And cost 2500 dollars from uncle sam. He got his money back eventually. This was in late 80's dollars. Call it 4000 today.

Spouse went to school in LR, she spent two months daily, costs close to three grand. Company paid half, forgot the other half and we charged it off. No problem.

One company I recall hiring on, orientation was delayed several months as I washed dishes in a fish fast food place every night for three months raising the savings to a few thousand before going down. That worked out well. I almost did not go down when life situations presented other oppertunites.

Why not ask your buddy to fund it since you will be working for his company, or at least have him give you a loan? I hope no one is offended by this, if you are white, long term unemployed Veteran seeking WOIA Funding, you will be waiting a long time, and will most likely get frustrated watching minorities that have jobs walk in and get funding for just about any occupation you can think of, while you sit there with zero income and no job waiting for your funding. Took me over a year to get mine, and that was only after I went to my State Representative and he stepped in on my behalf. 2 months later my school has been funded, but I have yet to get the voucher to take to the school to start training. At some point I may throw up my hands and explore Jim Palmer, Freymiller, or Prime and commit to the year.

WRIA paid for almost all of my CDL. It took 2 months to get the funding, but I got it.

    As for "hand out..."

I've worked and paid taxes for 40 years. I was in fact "displaced" with my previous career out of my reach, no matter what I did. I got back roughly 1/3 of what I paid in taxes LAST YEAR ALONE to pay for CDL school. And I've paid that amount back in taxes many times over.

It's WAY cheaper to take a willing pwerson, give them some assistance in training and have them pay taxes for fprever than to have them on the welfare rolls or collecting food stamps. If WRIA had not paid for CDL school, I would have gone to work for Swift or CR England, true. But I would have paid MANY times the cost of CDL school and paid LESS taxes by a long shot. Do the math, it ain't complicated.

I think you misread that, he doesn't own the company, I just meant the company he works for. But yeah, im getting ready to take the route of company paid myself.

Each of those students volunteered and felt super -clever getting something for nothing. "Other than the prison-rape & being fired for peeing off my truck is Swift a good company to start with?"
