I have a 1987 362 cabover peterbilt, AC does blow cold but it's not enough and everything runs as it should. I'm going to install better insulation soon, but man that thing gets hot! I'm thinking about doing a rooftop AC unit that i can run all day, but I don't know how well they do. I'll run a genset. Anyone ever do this? What brands to go with or stay away from? Any recommendations or any ideas for better AC? Thanks.

I've run trash trucks with Red dots stuff, they did great. But I don't know if they'd hold up to over the road. I know RV roof top AC units aren't really built for the long miles we run.

Use to be many red dots on the cab of trucks, I’d say it would work fine. Guy up in Ohio has a newer red dot on the cab of his Peterbilt and says it works good…

Keep your radiator clean, wash it out once a month or so to clean out the bugs and stuff so the engine runs as cool as possible, might help a little.

You have a lot of heat soaking going on, insulate the floor.

Cabovers were never known to frost your balls. The York compressor just doesn’t take to the 134a like the sanden. Most likely you have years of build up inside the evaporator core.

I agree red dot has been making A/C stuff for trucks for years

Never had issue with heat or cold when i drove cabovers..they all had Arctic package so well insulated..im sure the floor is critical..I know the IHC i drove had 1” plywood fastened underside of floor

Have a friend with a red dot on his cab over, only problem he says is you need to wear long sleeves when driving it’s either off or frozen
