    Somebody didn't buttonhook right @scottied67.

Both were at fault. The bike should have recognized the truck and the truck should have recognized the bike. Neither happened and someone died for it.

Yes people seldom realize how awkward it is in a truck trying to negotiate a tight corner, perhaps some sensible bike riders and truckers could just get together and maybe even go for a drive in a truck so the bikers understand exactly what its really like.

i have 2 deliveries in Boston nightly. (chinatown and southie) i can attest that with even a day cab, 53 foot trailer, tandems all the way forward, i come close to a few poles as well. i MUST take ALL my turns using up whatever space i have, INCLUDING traffic islands!! i hate those 2 stops. winter time is not a picnic either, the streets have parking on both sides, and narrow as it is, WITHOUT snow making them narrower.

and those "pop up" construction sites every so often, are no help to me, when there are NO warning signs of my street being closed!!!!!

the biker was a doctor? meaning she had brains and could have, must have seen the truck's blinker. and continued on her ignorant way. she is dead, oh well.

Seems to me that some people use a different set of rules when they get on a bicycle, than they use in their car.

    buddyd157 Thanks this.

I saw the video. Wow that is so unfortunate. I did see the trucker veer out to his left a little just before the right turn. Minus 9000 points for not checking the mirrors as well.

And yet Massachusetts law requires bicyclists to observe and obey the rules of the road, just like anyone driving a motor vehicle. As it is if she didn’t observe the turn signals on the truck being activated indicating that it was going to turn then she was either distracted or absent minded,or a combination of the two. Now she’s dead unfortunately. And this issue has been ongoing not just in Boston but all over Massachusetts with bicyclists not obeying traffic laws in general. Disobeying traffic signals, darting in and out of lanes, not yielding to pedestrians, the list goes on and on.

i think the disregard for bicyclists obeying street signs and the laws is every where. too many times i have been a witness too ignorant/rude cyclists that think they are elitists all cuz they are saving the planet.

theres alot of bicycle riders here. They get run over on a regular basis. they like to ride out on this busy highway west of town, Loop 360 its called. Every once in awhile I see one going down this very twisty high speed road, 2222. talk about a death wish, no bike lane or shoulder, lots of blind turns. But by god its their right to ride there.
    Hope they have life insurance.

I bike a lot but I tend to stay well away from traffic. Trees and large rocks tend to not jump out in front of you. When I do ride in a city, self preservation takes over. I don't care if I have the right of way because even a Smart Car has the potential to put me 6' under.
