I had Class-B and just finished CDL-A school. After researching private schools and company training programs I came to the conclusion I wanted neither. I didn't trust the "private" schools, it felt like I would end up owing them a ton of money no matter what happened and they would track my entire family until they got it. I have a good credit rating and didn't want their questionable BS on my report. The company training programs seemed a better bet but I started noticing many complaints about incomplete or insufficient training. And by the way they aren't free as advertised, the company finances it over the following year or so. I ended up going with a community college and being very satisfied with the training, costs and time frame. It was 5 weeks, 2 class room and 3 on the range with testing in the 3rd range week. I live in central Ohio, I'm not sure what is up your way. Go Luck!

Yeah I haven't looked into too many comm colleges, I should. I kind of agree with you on the private schools, they're there to make a profit, and I'm gonna be paying on a loan for awhile. I feel I do need training on shifting, traler etc. so I do want to go to some kind of school

It's "almost" the 160 hours that @Chinatown and most others recommend. I went to Roadmasters in Columbus YEARS ago, and was very pleased with the results; here i am eons later making money and being safe. People keep talking about WIA that has helped them with funding as well, but it may be tough to get approved, so they say.
To get more information about WIA , the Workforce Investment Act, you should contact your local unemployment or job office/center and ask about getting a training grant. These programs do take some time for approval and often run out of money early, so I would advise you to make contact with an agency as soon as possible.
If you are not eligible for the dislocated worker program, you may be eligible for TAA funding. Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) funding is available to people that may have lost their job due to foreign competition or trade.
Our community colleges here in Richland/Morrow/Knox/Crawford counties do not have driver programs, unfortunately.
Good luck on your endeavors, be safe!Tavonte Battles Thanks this. -

Clark State Community College in Springfield. I commuted because it was cheaper than paying for a hotel. Everyone in the class was local and mostly on the grant. The school is very good. They do a lot of the training for the state employees including troopers. Their standards are high due to state scrutiny.
chrism1367 and SHOJim Thank this.
