Newer driver and O/O of a steel body Mack Granite truck here. I’m trying to make ends meet but hemorrhaging money on fuel and working dirt/rock jobs is not turning much of a profit. I’m in GA, and GA DOT requires aluminum bodies or aluminum lined bed to work their asphalt jobs. There is a company here that offers a lining service which goes for $1500. Are there any other cost effective options to get into asphalt and start turning more of a profit? What options do I have here?
Also, how do I find another dispatcher? I suspect mine is sending myself and another O/O on crappy jobs to send her trucks on the better jobs, and I also suspect she is withholding the travel fees for some of these jobs, as I’ve heard from other drivers how they get paid $80-100 per job to be dispatched out.

I don't know about the bed lining stuff, but $1500 doesn't sound unreasonable to me. But, I pull a bulk tank so I'm not the arbiter of that sort of thing. If you're hauling dirt and rock, I think I'd skip the dispatcher altogether and try to get in tight with some of the local ready mix outfits and/or the quickcrete packaging places, or block and brick making joints. All of the above is all over the place around here (Arkansas). I'm sure it's the same in your neck of the woods. Obviously, they go through a lot of product, especially from April through October/November (up to the holidays). If you're a single truck, one of them could keep you busy all day every day.

That’s crazy…can’t haul asphalt mix in a steel body.
They probably want strobes on the truck and a tarp not a net or mesh to cover that aluminum lined bodyDTandLogistics Thanks this. -
