You are absolutely correct. Think of the billions Americans are getting screwed out of, which affects our economy. I don't trust ANY companies any more. I research them before I do any business with them and it's sad it's come to this. Instead of bickering like immature children, the government should attack this crap and end it.

If you don't check the messages, how do you know it's not an actual legal authority trying to contact you?

If I knew it was all scammers, I would use a burner phone and never turn it on.

    Can I do that?

the calls died down after about a month for me, haven't activated my authority yet so I figure they'll pick back up again when I do it next month. I put my land line # on my authority application figuring that would send all the sales pitch calls to the house, didn't work, still get all kind of calls to my cell # for factoring and insurance

The problem with a new authority and blindly blocking all unknown numbers is one of those will eventually be the new entrant audit....which you must not ignore..

I think it lasted maybe a few months, now it's very rare.

Answer a couple of their calls like this "hi and thanks for calling the BS County sheriff's fraud prevention department. If your calling to offer unsolicited business services please stay on the line, we want to talk to you"

I do check the messages, but either they don't leave any, or the message left is a recorded message (for example) about how I must need some medical equipment that would be covered by medicare - I am not old enough for medicare nor do I need any medical equipment and I get like 8-10 calls a day from these people! This is on the landline, mind you - which my husband has had for like 25 years and doesn't want to give up. It goes to an answering machine, and we do return calls if they are legitimate, but they almost never are. I don't know why but he gets scam calls on his cell phone too - I almost never do. I use my cell for my business number and so far that's worked out fine.
These days all the scam calls have spoofed local numbers, they seem to think if we see a local # on caller id it will fool us. I hear that now they can actually spoof your friends and family's numbers, so you answer thinking it's a relative or friend! When we have answered these calls, the scams are unbelievable and the abuse these people throw at us for calling them out is just outrageous. I have been called more obscene names in the last year than in my entire life.....but it's kind of funny because a lot of the time I can't understand what they are saying so I say what? what? what did you say? after about 5 times of these people trying to repeat an English obscenity I say "Oh! you mean #$%@@!!" and then I can't help but crack up laughing. Then they get offended say something like "#####!" and hang up.

You’re right. I always answer my phone. If it turns out to be a spam call, I block it. This technique seems to be working for me.

I think it’s important to peacefully hang up the spam calls. Last thing you want is to make the spam caller angry, and who knows where your phone number ends up.
