FYI, they look similar, but they're completely different entities. Customs wear blues and their vehicles are blue and white. The Border Patrol wears green and their vehicles are green and white. Messing with Customs carries much stiffer penalties.

Who was it that walked all over your mattress coming back from Canada once?

Customs. The commanding officer at that post gave me phone number to voice my complaints and they did follow through.

That's about the size of it. I did that work for a couple years, though I never had to physically remove anyone from their truck. The closest I came to that was one night when the local Loves called us to remove a truck that was parked beside the Cat scale blocking in legitimately parked trucks from leaving. They'd banged on the door and sleeper to no avail and figured the guy must have left. Well, raising the front of his truck up sure proved otherwise. He was fighting mad and I didn't feel like fighting. I could have called the cops and legally demanded payment to set him back down but it was easier and quicker to mark it up a loss and make him move. We made enough money off dropped trailers there that it wasn't really a loss lol

You're spot on with the brakes though. They're a mild inconvenience at best for a wrecker driver. Cage the tractor and run your own lines to the trailer. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Gladhand locks? 5th wheel locks? None of that will stop your truck from being towed.

Truck gets towed, driver gets tossed out, possibly jailed and criminal charges filed and then it just continues to go all down hill from there. Possibly loses job and then has to resort to fast-food, other low wage work, or petty crime to get by.
This parking situation is probably one of the biggest things that makes the job look even less attractive to outsiders and keeps many tractors parked in the yard, and trailers on the trains.

Well that's it then, I'm cutting my own lines whenever I park in Hobby Lobby lots so there to them :). Seriously be aware of the scams, ask and when in doubt go somewhere else. Atlanta is a PIA, and they know they are a PIA. You need to be mindful of your clock and find realistic parking down there, its not right, its not cool, but it is the way it is.

Same with MA and many upper East Cost locations, just a pain for truckers and you would do well to ask for local knowledge and go from there. Trucking is a great business to legally rip off, whether its towing, at the truck stop or with fees they know our trucks are our tools to earn and many take advantage of it. Of course we could always organize and try to fight back, but we all know this is silly talk right :)

What will cutting your lines do to prevent a tow? The cage bolt will still manually release your spring brakes. Most wreckers carry a variety of hose fittings and splices, because they never know what condition a wrecked truck will be in that they'll have to patch together and clear. Trust me when I say this: NOTHING you can do to your own truck that can easily be undone by you so that you can get back on the road again will slow them down. Glad hand lock on the red line? Wrench removes the glad hand and they run their air to your trailer. If you park illegally, they can tow you no matter what you try to do to prevent it.

Best way to NOT get towed is to only park where you are allowed to park.

I have an app on my smart phone that records phone calls.
I call manager of Wal-Mart ask them to identify themselves then clearly ask if I may park.
Why do i do this cause my friend got permission and then they booted her truck in the am and MGR denied giving pwrmission.
