Looking for some advice here. I bought a used Fleet truck from Trans America out of Olathe KS. Kenworth T680 2019 Paacar Truck had 450,000 miles on it.
The day I go to pick it up, it's not ready. I sit around all day, basically I'm told there's some sort of short and they cruise control isn't working. I'm told they put a new steering wheel and radio in and this fixed the problem.
On the way home when I engage the cruise control I get a message, next day check engine light on, told to take it to kenworth. Trans America take care of the truck for 30 days.
Take it to Kenworth and it's in the shop for 2 weeks. Finally get it back and on the road.
About a month later I get a transmission fault, basically what I know now is the there's a short in the gear shift knob on the column. Find it hard to believe it's not related to the problems I had with the cruise control.
I've now had the truck for a little over 3 months and I get warnings high soot level, truck power down to 55 miles an hour. Truck won't go through a regen.
Take it to get worked on, basically told it's not getting enough fuel pressure. They change fuel filters, fuel pump, still not enough pressure. I guess theres a fuel control module they switch that out, then they're able to get enough fuel pressure and get the truck to regen.
I pay $8,000, get the truck, get loaded. Short haul 130 miles, get to reciever, spend night in parking lot. When I wake up in the morning when I fire it up I notice check engine light, I'm like wtf, then notice def gage is empty and light blinking. I know it's got def. Then the red lights come on, shut down warnings etc. I can only move 5 mph. I call the place that worked on it, told I either got to tow it back, or get someone out there with a computer see if they can get it to regen and get going.
I get ahold of someone, they come out, switch out the def gage sensor, does no good, they're able to get it so I can get the truck back to the shop. Costs me another $700.
I get it back to the shop and I'm being told the ecm isn't powering up the after treatment module.
It's been in the shop for 2 days, since I broke down it's been 3 weeks.
I'm about out of money, I have no idea, I feel like they're just going to trouble shoot me to death at $200 an hour.
This is a 2019 Kenworth with 475,000 miles. I don't feel like I should be having these types of problems. I've only had the truck for 3 months.
Is there anything I can do? Go back to Trans America? Was told 30 days there.
Was told truck has like 7 years 700,000 warranty but when I talked to kenworth that only covered "major" things and whatever my truck problems are isn't considered major. For the DEF it's the Knox censors.
I seriously don't know what to do, my last truck I had major problems, got rid of it and bought this. Was hoping I'd be able to make some money get things built up, but I feel like this is going to do me in.

I'm really sorry to hear that, and I don't want to "should've" you, but you should have came here 1st. Fleet trucks are shot at 500K, and exactly why they get rid of them when they do. Everything you describe sounds like a fleet truck with half a mil on it. If you have 30 days, I would indeed take it back, but I fear that won't be cut and dry either. Make no mistake, it's a good truck, and we hear nothing but nightmares about folks like you with good intentions, getting the shaf with trucks like this. There has never been a better case for "you get what you pay for". If they won't take it back, or some penalty, I guess it's going to be uphill for a while. Best of luck, keep us posted, not just for you, but for others in the same boat.
BTW, my grandfathers name was Bloomfield. -
Get yourself a computer and do the forced regeneration yourself.

otr performance works good on oscar’s, you can change nox sensors and force regen and resets codes.

If your truck has the Paccar MX13 engine, they’re notorious for after treatment issues.
I would search Facebook for any KW 670/680 groups and join them.
They have a lot of useful information from people who own or work on the same truck you have, that will help you save thousands of dollars.FLHT Thanks this. -
Sorry, but this is like the worst truck to buy second hand. In the near future you will have to replace the whole DEF system and then your engine will fail shortly after.
I mean no disrespect, everyone makes mistakes, but that's one of the stupidest things ever to buy a half a million Paccar truck from a Mega. Figure out how to get rid of it Asap -
that's the reason peterbilt 587 or kw t680 with paccars sold for least money at auctions

No one wants to do that, it takes money and an effort so they would rather act like it is a car, buy it from a slick greasy sales dweebe and make the big bucks because hell ... it drives like a car so it must be.Last Call, mjd4277, Siinman and 1 other person Thank this.
