So here’s the deal boys and girls. I start my day at 4:30am
I broke down today at around 7:00am. I logged off duty as told. All the way until 2pm.
they get me some paper logs and a temp truck and say “run driver run”
I told them alright I can do that but. I’m gonna have to shut down around 6pm my 14 hr clock is running.
They now tell me after 2 hours my 14 stops. Never in my life has a eld done THAT.
Have I been logging time wrong? Or am I gonna get hammered with a violation if I run all those hours out. Answers ASAP would be appreciated
Broke down after 2.5 hrs on, logged off duty, Co wants me to run.

The only thing that stops the 14 is a 10, a 7-plus in a sleeper, or a 3 plus and a 7 plus in the sleeper later.
-
Your day should be ending at 630. Presuming you actually started at 430. Tho I thought the only people allowed to run paper were solo operators. Its your license, not theirs.

Yes you can, but it means you're going into a split sleeper scenario, in which, according to the letter of the law, the 3 plus MUST be followed by 7 plus in the sleeper to be valid. So log sleeper at the end of your day.

yes, if it is followed by 7 or more in the sleeper. Make a note on your log at the end of the off duty section "end of first segment of split sleeper berth" to alert an inspector. And you MUST have a sleeper!
spindrift, slow.rider and Doealex Thank this. -
You're manager is full of crap. NOTHING STOPS your 14. You can RESET the 14 with a 10 hour break or a 8/2 split. I *think* they changed the 8/2 thing so that might be a 7/3 or whatever, but it's still a split sleeper berth. I'm home every day so I don't keep up with any of the sleeper split jive.
Also, you can't log off duty when you're broke down. Your manager was wrong there too. Frankly, when I read that, I figured you were going to say they told you to finish up your three hours left to reset your 14 and then get to work. That wouldn't have surprised me in the least. I had a jackarse try to pull that on me once. I told them to pound sand. lol88 Alpha, Trucker61016, firemedic2816 and 6 others Thank this. -
So I can’t then. Drive 3 hours stop for 3 then drive for 8hrs if I stop for 7 at the end of the day?
man I’m so confused. I’d never try a split break crap any other time.lovesthedrive Thanks this.
