I am a disabled women veteran with my DVBE/DBE certificates...I have been in business(by the skin of my teeth) for 3 years...I have 3 trucks now...experienced drivers...perfect driving records...no ins claims...Every time I turn around some new law or requirement pushes me closer to shutting down...It really hit the fan this month when my ins rose 30k ...My new rate is 77k a year from 44k...Absolutely no reason!!!...We have just started seeing some positive cash flow after covid, breakdowns, the initial ins costs, fuel prices, and just CA crap!!!...I finally won my first gov contract to start this week and BAM the insurance must have found out I am about to make money so they stuck their hand out!!!!...My trucks are in the construction side of trucking which is exactly where the ins told me would be the cheapest route to go...They wanted my trucks to not go over the road...I complied...I just don't know how I can keep doing this but with my DVBE I can't leave CA...Anyone have any advice?? Or encouragement???

    Numb Thanks this.

Do you actually want the truth or do you just want us to start mother ####ing the government with you?

however, thank you for your service

Sad to say this , but consider moving out of CA . It's getting really bad cost wise out there for everything related to transportation.

ok, The DBE is in other states but the DVBE cert, I know one fleet owner who has it and they have been struggling too.
Really? Ever examine what's going on??
    What new laws?

Seriously, you can adapt to most of them.
I have to ask this, what did you do to see the increase?

Did you actually talk to the insurance company, every one of them has a risk management group who can tell you how to be proactive to reduce risks.
Really? Something doesn't sound right, you should have seen pcf by the beginning of 2023 with three trucks.
Great, but not so. Again did you ask the insurance company why?

Did you shop around to see who is cheaper?
Got it, maybe shifting into another segment would help.
If the DVBE is holding you back, think about how does it really help. I know a lot of companies who pays lip service to the DBE owners but they still select vendors by their ability to service them to fit into their business, not the other way around.
Just keep on top of it, this is the most depressing economy I can remember, a lot of people are hurting a lot.
    Yeah stick to it.

First, thank you for standing up for your country.

Second, stop approaching business from the perspective of your DVBE. The hard truth? You will get into more doors to have a conversation about doing business, but it won’t get you more business. Business is ruthlessly focused on merit. You’ve come from an environment where you will be rewarded if you just follow all the rules. Business doesn’t work like that. You have to stand out, be different, offer a better mousetrap.

Many people won’t do business with government, because the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. The rules negate any increase in revenue.

Insurance is too high, prohibitively so. Find out why. The insurance company has a reason, and you need to know. It may just be one driver, or one route, or one truck. Find out.

Hang in there, but find out WHY you run into problems, and solve them. Good luck.

    call around and insurance shop.
If you stay with one insurance company to long they start games, rolling the odds, so to speak, figuring the longer you’re there, the more chance of an accident they don’t want to pay.
