I will be taking my Class A test soon. My questions are about the parallel parking exercise.
How long is the parking area? I have heard that it is from eight to twelve feet longer then the total length of the vehicle.
    How wide is the area?
Where is the starting cone lined up in relation to the rear trailer tire? Even with the hub or tire sidewall? Or two to three feet behind the tire?
I will be taking the test with a twenty eight foot trailer

Don't even sweat it man you only got a 28ft trailer. I did mine in a sleeper truck with a 53' trailer. Haven't you been practising this yet?

28? That's nothing. You will pop it into that spot.

Ive parked 48's and 53's with a full sleeper cab into fishing towns feeding 6 meters sometimes.

I forgot. Your 28 will be very quick to pivot on your 5th wheel. Get some practice and stay under it. Don't let that ### end get away from you is the main thing. The bigger they are the easier they tuck in.

They adjust the space to the length of your trailer. No biggie......

I've been practicing. I just want to make that sure I'm doing it in the same size space as the DMV coarse. Being new I'd like to practice the maneuver in the same way as the test.
I've been using an area about 8' longer then the tractor & trailer, 12' wide. I've been lining up the trailer hub with the entry cone.

Where did you get your training at? When I went to school, 8 year's ago in Sacramento, the school had the practice yard set up just like the course at the West Sac DMV.

Which DMV Office are you testing through? Some have painted lines with cones at the corners, and they don't move them, so if it is 28', or 53', it is the same box. Others move the cones depending on the length of the trailer. Consistency and DMV will never be 2 words you will see together.

I probably will be doing the test at Santa Teresa DMV in San Jose.
There's been a lot of turnover with the instructors at the school I'm attending and none have given me the same answer to my question.
