I have to believe there is some movement allowed to conform to california standards.
Every trailer is manufactured to be california 40 ft in very first hole?
    Hard to believe.
I guess I will find out.
I hate to break a seal on a food load..will probably have to if I get stopped.

The 53ft dry vans i have run in the past. 40ft was not quite all the way forward. Or just get a marker or piece of tape and measure from kingpin 10ft at a time all the way down the trailer . that will give u more accurate answer as to if u have any room left to move it

    Upinsmoke Thanks this.

    Bought a tape measure.
10 ft 9 inches from rear of trailer to center of axle rear most tandem.
    I should be good.
    Thanks.
    Now we know.

Easier to measure 10 feet from rear of trailer rather than the other 43 feet in the front.

    D.Tibbitt and x1Heavy Thank this.

At 6" per hile I would just move it back one hole and re-weigh.
You have a tape measure? With your kingpin 3 ft off of the front, the center of the rear tandem should be at least 10 feet forward if the rear of the trailer. Or no more than 40' back from the kingpin. Let us know how it goies.

If it's a newer Utility reefer, then the second hole is exactly at the 40 foot mark and legal in CA. I have a 2019 Utility reefer and live in CA. Never run overweight here. You will get nailed when you least expect it.

Absolutely not. You could try skipping past the scales and see if anyone comes after you. If so, you may just end up with a charge of Disobeying a Traffic Control Device, which is easier than sitting to have a load reworked.

    D.Tibbitt and Upinsmoke Thank this.

Slide the tandems back and roll. 99% chance they won’t even notice, especially with no mark on the side of your trailer. Not sure where you’re going but Truckee is about the only scale you don’t want to blow because they’ll just come to the Ag check and get you.

If you have time, run up 95 from 10 to 40

Easier to run banning than all that other stuff . they will not come after u. They are dealing with the other 500 trucks that are backed up onto the interstate with cars whizzing past at 90 mph without a care in the world. Not to mention all the trucks they are doing inspections on . i woldnt worry about it .
