That's not considered working on it I'd bet, in fact I bet some would say you're adding to the problem.

Okay, you guys have let this thread drift off into politics and abortion, neither of which are fit topics for the general forum.
I'm going to close the thread, delete some posts, and I'll re-open it when the objectionable content is gone.

The problem with all of these types of proposals is they're trying to put a time limit on things rather than let them happen as they are being developed. It's kind of like saying okay I'm baking a cake here it goes in the oven I want it to be done in 2 and 1/2 minutes. No no no. It takes what it takes.
As far as electric trucks go, there will come a day that there will be electric trucks I would imagine. But like any technology it takes time to be user-friendly and for the expense of it to come down.
So Right now the batteries that are required for electric trucks are huge, expensive, and very heavy. There has to be some time for the technology to be able to shrink them down say to the size of what the batteries are in a truck currently. That's going to take time.
Engine manufacturers are going to begin moving toward electric powered trucks, but again the technology is just beginning. So what will an electric truck cost? If a new truck nowadays is about 150,000 what is an electric truck? 300,000 400,000? 500,000? The price will come down, but it's going to take time.
There also has to be an infrastructure of charging stations. So it's possible maybe a very Local Company could charge at Homebase if they return to their home base the same day. But that is a very limited application. Maybe there are some companies that have terminals that are not very far they could go terminal to terminal but again that's a limited application. So it is going to take time to build that infrastructure.
Who's going to repair the electric trucks? Even if they have the infrastructure in place are there going to be garages in every city that work on them? Are they going to be vehicles that are like when the emissions came out that they're completely and totally unreliable? Who knows? Again, time is the real issue.
The next question is the energy grid itself. I lived in California for a few years. Anyone that lives there knows what I'm going to say. What happens in the summertime when it's extremely extremely hot and every single solitary person in the state of California turns on the air conditioner? The answer is that the electric grid starts to suffer and they try to get people to use their electricity more sparingly because it's such an overload. How is the electrical grid going to handle millions of trucks putting colossal charges into them when they can't even handle people running their air conditioners? Not to mention trains and buses. Are planes now going to be fully electric also?
Of course, if they make electric trucks and also electric cars, the electrical usage is going to spike way upward. What generates electricity? Fossil fuels. So if consumption of electricity is multiplied by let's just use the number 10, it's that much more fossil fuel that has to be used to generate that electricity. Solar and wind can assist, but the technology currently does not permit them to be able to generate all electricity with only solar and wind. Especially when there is going to be such a massive demand.
I suppose in the end less fossil fuel would be used then fueling every individual car and truck, but with everything involved it has to be some time into the future.KB3MMX, SteveScott and Rubber duck kw Thank this. -
