Once in like '83 or so I had only enough money to buy a 10 Lb. bag of potatoes, and onion, too.

Pawn shops in bigger areas with lots of your fellow drivers passing through may have a decent deal on a truck gps, or whathaveyou. I could also be lucky...I've always had good luck with pawn shops an buying stuff. Just need to be able to smell any BS they try to shovel. Deals can be had.
Just an idea. Still gotta pay for it but won't be as much as a brand new one. Folks retire everyday, an others quit, or just need money so sell off their equipment. CL is another good option in bigger areas with lots of freight/trucks/etc.
