    Take only downhill loads. Noted.

My little dumdum Landstar question has generated a great deal of helpful information, not to mention, an allstar cast of TTR celebrities. Thanks guys

All kidding aside, my goals and aspirations are simpler than y’all’s and I feel they are obtainable as long as I am smart about it.

I’ve been on a lot of message boards over the years and interested in a lot of different subjects, but I don’t recall reading a thread that long and being that engrossed.

Not just chock full of valuable information (a lot of reading between the lines), but laid out well.

HeII, #### near inspired me to start my own thread just to give more insight (pass or fail) into the next guy digging for research material. But, I’m sure I won’t...

Double Yellow’s was quite the read as well with a ton of good info, but dang, was like reading the Wall Street Journal. Found myself staring out the window chasing butterflies sometimes. I like poker, but I woulda been the sucker at that table. I’m only halfway through his.

But, thank you for putting that much effort into it. Well done.

Blair does post numbers, I don’t, but He knows mine, I saw what he was doing and decided he needed a new goal. So I raised the bar a little.

Blair has taken advantage of the opportunity that LS provided.
To his credit he didn’t come in underfunded and was willing to learn.
He learned flat bed, then oversized, bought a big house and became spoiled. Did some difficult loads, got burned a few times but learned and moved on.
Yes I helped him a little but he did the hard work, but he proved you can make a good living at the star if you work at it.

Everyone’s rates are down and business is changing but opportunities still exist, just harder to find.

Back to the op, what you see on the LS board is not a good picture of how things are, I can show you a screen shot of 3.00 plus van freight, with miles or a shot of pathetic van freight that no one should touch, but brokers carriers line up for it.

I am going to a convention next month that will have over 400 bco’s that figured out the system, LS is paying for it all and someone will go home with a new truck, taxes paid too.
Most leased on without knowing the system and somehow became successful.
It all is not in a load board.

You can't just get your own authority and then pull for a few hand picked agents as a qualified carrier so you don't have to deal with the bs, and keep all the money.

That's my idea I'm moving forward with.

    That's theft of intellectual property.

I've never read the B&G thread, but everyone knows the B&G money is the goal. It's common knowledge throughout the community.

There is some perks to having your own authority, especially if planning on running a fleet, but there is perks to leasing on to a god outfit too, in the end it amounts to about the same. When I started I went with my own authority, with no otr experience I doubt I could have leased on to any companies that I could have hauled my own freight too. It was a lot of trial and error, and sometimes it would have been nice to have been with an outfit that had freight instead of hustling it on my own.
I figure all in all, the money was not much different, I had a little more freedom than most oo's.

Correctomundo. I've seen guys (especially lease ops) post up their numbers and exclude deadhead miles as well as labor costs. Then, call what's left over "NET PROFIT".

Sorry, but that ain't how it works in the real world of accounting.

That's why at the end of the day, let's see what everyone paid in taxes. Really no way around that is there?

That's a pretty cut and dry indicator. Unless someone is risking tax fraud.

I don’t pretend to have the tools available to me that B&G had. But, what was inspiring about the thread to me, is just plain old work ethic and determination with proper preparation can get ‘er done. Even on a smaller level, success can be found...if you stay humble and realistic.

Anybody willing to research this path should start with that thread and make notes.

I'm currently accessing the LS board. Have it on the other screen. There's 36,274 loads available. All terrible. Bad. Evil. I'd really think this through if I were you.
