So you’ll be running under their Authority. Therefore have to do their Loads. Maybe find out if they’ll let you book backhauls, maybe even loads that aren’t exactly backhauls. Letting them keep a small percentage for their trouble. Running enough to make it work out good for everyone. If you had your Own Authority, might still get loads from them. Wouldn’t need them though. I think knowing theirs runs, and studying the load boards for other runs, beforehand would be best. First you need to know what they’re willing to let you do. If every Trip out is 300 miles, and delivers same day. DH back, repeat. That’s $5250 gross, roughly 2000 in fuel. Not too bad for 5 days home every night. 2 -150 mile trips per day, will be a more work, and time loading and unloading, but same revenue. I guess it all depends on how much, and what kind of runs they have. May or may not need backhauls. Might be a real good steady gig to hang onto, once rates come down.

First you need to figure out how much it costs you to run a truck. You said that they are offering $3.54. What was your counter offer?

That's a tough spot to be in not wanting to miss your little one grow up.

That should be 2.50 bare min for all miles. 1.77 is a slap in the face. Put some feelers out, you should be able to do around 1000-1200 a day and not kill yourself. If your gonna try and stay loaded both ways anymore than 200mi each way is gonna be pushing the 14. Unless it's a steady D/H gig on both ends.

First the op never said how many miles this run is. Maybe I missed the part of how many loads a week. These things are important.

    load boards?

you will have to deal with companies to get a solid commitment to return freight. Load boards will only leave you hanging looking for work.

I would be running under my own authority so it would make it easy to find some back hauls on my own. I think I’m going to see if he’ll let me get loads going out of there and then find my own back hauls coming back. $3.54 doesn’t sound so bad if I can find a back haul instead of deadheading. The only thing they require is that they are listed as an additional insured on my insurance.

I need to call him back and get more details on how many miles. I really didn’t think at first it was something I would be doing for that rate so didn’t really quiz him out. I want to have more of a plan and know what I have to have when I call back. Also above someone mentioned a counter offer. He might go for that.

Shouldn’t be a problem then. You can do what You want, not Dedicated to them 100%. I think it’s Ideal to have steady Loads available out of Home Base. That’s half the battle won. Then do another Load or two. DH home when needed. As Long as you make enough Revenue for the week. All you’re really out is any extra fuel and time to DH a bit further to get home. Sure overall PM avg. will be lower. Who cares? If you’ve made enough for the week. I had a deal for 10 yrs. Steady Load from home, whenever I needed. Rate stayed steady year round. I stuck with it for stability. Too bad they got a new Traffic Manager who shot himself in the foot. Wanted a lower rate. He had the nerve to call a while back, after almost a year, with a difficult Load, just for Me. Thought he’d do me a favor. Said to name my rate !! He had no idea how hard it is to make 3-4 appointment deliveries to food warehouses in one day. Apparently the other Carriers can’t make it happen. I already knew that. Guess he knows now. They can have it. I don’t miss any of it.

Some lazy ##### at that con Agra . They told me to drop a trailer once but the yard dogs were just standing around talking playing music . No spots to put that trailer so I dropped it right Infront all the other trailers and bounced out on my way out . One of those dogs came flying around the corner pissed off that I did that, well next time tell me exactly were to put it .

Thanks. I haven’t checked with them. Didn’t even know about them so that will be a good place to check out for getting additional hauls.
