Everyone is different but here is a rough breakdown of a single owner operator authority on a yearly basis. I’m sure these fluctuate wildly but these numbers are pretty solid on 110k miles a year.
$50,000 truck/trailer and maintenance
$75,000 fuel
$20,000 permits plates insurance ifta
So about total $145k a year expenses
110k miles at $2/mile profit be $75k
110k miles at $3/mile profit be $185k
At 52 weeks a year at $3 a mile all year you’re looking at $3,550 profit
This doesn’t consider new trucks or old ones or taxes and depreciation and all that fun stuff but it’s a decent guideline.
Can owner operators make 4k per week after all expenses and taxes?

Pretty close.

This is two trucks it seems. So income might be higher than just one truck. The profit per mile, before taxes, of the other truck needs to be subtracted to get income for just one truck. But here it appears that income, before taxes, on just one truck is 1.74/mile nothwithstanding any truck payments.Last edited: Aug 28, 2022

Why are you thinking its 2 trucks? Doesnt seem outside of plausibility its 1 hrmm, just saw lower thing
But why is that a bad idea? 1 guy, 2 trucks? I know thats what i want to get to. Always seems downtime if 1 truck is down is what kills me77fib77 and Brettj3876 Thank this. -
It says 2 units in the readout. Anyway, I arrived at 1.74 income per mile on one truck, before taxes. That seems high to me though.

2 trucks, me as driver,
One breaks down, i swap til i fix or shop if needed.God prefers Diesels and Coffey Thank this. -
Then income seems to be $1.85/mile before taxes without truck payment. But this is when loads were paying $3.23/mile averaged out over loaded and empty miles. Extrapolating from that, at today's spot load rates ($2.25), income per mile before taxes, and without truck payment is $1.29/mile.Last edited: Aug 28, 2022

Well its from the begining of the year when things tarted to drop and fuel was already on the rise... youre making assumptions that MAY be true, but not neccessarily
-
According to the readout numbers, the math said the loads were paying $3.23 per mile averaged out over loaded and empty. But today's loads only pay 2.20 - 2.40. So I didn't really make much of an assumption. Also, in reality 2000 miles/wk is most likely because of downtime. So per week income, 2000 * $1.29, which is before taxes and without truck payment, is: 2580/wk. And that is under your own Authority and your own truck and trailer.Last edited: Aug 28, 2022
