Assuming your a company driver at the time of this posting. Waste a half of a day calling insurance companies using the vin and other information of that truck to get a quote. Then figure out your mpg that you get with with fuel. Then deduct a half a mile per gallon for sitting in traffic idleing and what not. Then depending on if you own your mock truck out right or have a weekly payment add that to it.
So insurance 750 for two weeks
Truck payment 900 for two weeks
    Fuel 1800 for two weeks.
I'm not good with math and these are made up numbers but I think that equals $3,450. So now you have to figure on 3000 miles a week. Or in this pretend story. 6000 miles in two weeks.
Now these are paid miles. I don't know how to factor in unpaid miles in this scenario. So when your looking at the load boards. Your average per mile just to break even. Not even making a profit must be equal $3,450 divided by 6000.
Understand this is a very loose and simple way to look at it. Im sure other drivers will add to it. But rember. If your breaking even. You don't eat that day.

That’s pretty much what I did I used a calculator and got 1.58 a mile assuming power only. I also didn’t account for taxes, which I’d imagine to be liberal add 40% on top of the 1.58.

I also did it with a large truck payment calculated into it; If I did this it would be with a paid for truck or a small payment under $900 a month. I also was gonna put $900 a month in savings per month for PM and repairs.

I just don’t see how guys make it, unless they’re avoid the IRS. Margins look razor sharp from what I’m looking at. I’ll have to research the benefits of leasing yourself out to a carrier

Oh, I haven’t even thought about factoring yet. I’m ignorant on that, but being familiar with the financial industry I’d imagine that’s a good 2-10% right off the top

I’ll break it all down in a bit. I gotta go to sleep

No need to break it down for us. We're already painfully aware of what it takes and how we run on the edge. This is why you won't find many of us that would recommend getting into the business and why it has such a high failure rate.

I would recommend JRV Logistics Inc. Small company, 35 trucks or so. Can be dispatched or can self-dispatch. Only owner operators, no company trucks. 85% with your trailer, 80% with their trailer, that includes maintenance on the trailer and NO ADDITIONAL weekly fees for the trailer! Total weekly fees are $255. Paid every Friday. NASTC fuel card for big savings on fuel.
