I searched and couldn't find any threads that sufficiently answered this question so I apologize if this has been answered. Got in a discussion with a driver today about this. He says even if you just get a warning it is csa points even if the officer is not a dot cop and cannot do an inspection. It was my understanding that csa points can only be given through a dot inspection. Am I wrong? Would like to hear from a LEO on this one if we have one floating around. I know a dot guy used to haunt these forums answering questions. Thanks.
can you get csa points without an inspection?

No. Points are only given with an inspection.
Even though this refers to driving a personal vehicle, read the response.
Q: Will violations, citations, or warnings issued against a driver while driving his/her personal vehicle be placed into the driver's data in CSA?
A: No. The only data that will be placed into the CSA database related to drivers will be violations noted on a roadside inspection report (this is only completed when a commercial vehicle and/or the driver of a commercial vehicle is inspected) and crashes that the driver is involved in while operating a commercial vehicle.

You are SCORED from the violation code from your issued ticket or DOT inspection paperwork / citation , warnings ( without PAPERWORK as a reult of INSPECTION ) are not scoreable

FMCSA only assesses points from Roadside Inspection Reports, as they have access to them. They do not have access to local or state citations or warnings. He is correct that points are assessed on warnings, but only if those warnings are accompanied with a written Roadside Inspection Report, or an Inspection Report written in conjuction with an accident investigation.

And 'olhand, what prompted this discussion was a qualcom message we have been getting stating that any speeding violation 6mph or over results in csa points, even if it's just a warning. I mentioned that I thought it was only true if it came with a dot inspection and we were off to the races.'olhand Thanks this. -
The worst one is a warning with an accompanying roadside inspection, you cannot even DataQ challenge it.
