So I went to Stevens Transport a few weeks back with my application and once I get there they tell me that they need my tax returns for the past three years. OK, no problem but why didn't the genius tell me that BEFORE I drove to their school from Plano, Texas?? Just stupid and rude. No excuse for that.
Then they tell me I have to have made at least 10,000 dollars every year for the past three years. Not possible for me since I was teaching English in Mexico City. So, there goes Stevens Transport with their incredibly professional people working there who don't even tell you everything that you need to bring before coming. Unreal.
Next I go to driver solutions so I can get on with PAM Transport. Turn in my taxes for the past three years and this time make sure that there is no certain income amount required. They tell me no, they just need to see that I was working and filing taxes. No problem. The recruiter delivers that to PAM Transport and tells me to call him this morning to see what they said. I called the recruiter from driversolutions and he says that PAM said no for now.
Sorry guys but I'm starting to think whoever is running some of these companies are pretty uneducated with low IQ's. Let's see...I have a clean, 27 year driving record, proof that I have been working for the past three years, I take a shower everyday unlike a lot of the drivers I have been seeing at some schools, and still I can't get a break.
Any suggestions on a company or school out there with any type of brains in their heads that would train me? You know, with my PERFECT 27 year driving history, no drugs, no health problems. Any companies any of you all would recommend?
Thanks.
Can't catch a break!!!!

Tax returns, seriously?
That's stupid! I had a job a couple weeks out of CDL school and hadn't worked in the last 2-3 years. You need to come out to Midland/Odessa and get a job in the oilfield. -
You take a shower every day? .... there's your problem right there. How can you be taken seriously as a qualified trucker if you're going to shower every day?
Svoray, 123456 and Rollover the Original Thank this. -
My scenario is a litle different. I worked for three different trucking companies in the 90's and went to truck driving school in 2001 when the last company i worked for closed its doors. (Preston Trucking). After graduating, I worked for a small company that had one of their tractors leased to an expediter, where i drove for nine months. After nine months of working without a set schedule and driving within an hours notice, i messed up my stomach from drinking too much coffee, pepsi, tea and taking no-doze. The combination of caffeine, lack of sleep and stress of driving a pete 379 sleeper with a 53"van in a different erea everyday took its toll on me. For the next several years I worked for a city and ran an auto quick lube/ car wash combo. Now I want to get back into driving and I cant find anyone that will take me because everyone wants at lest one year OTR experience within the last three years or two in the last five. WTF does a couple months or within a certain time frame mean? They act like peopel forget to ride a bike. Nevermind that I currently work for a LTL company and work the yard and spot trailers on the dock. Nevermind that I have two associate degrees.
Sorry about the rant. I feel your frustration. -
I just got my CDL and have found being out work for three years is a job killer. I think I wasted my time getting my CDL. I was phyced for this. Now I'm bummed out. Oh well. I'm ready to give up.
-
Don't give up the CDL....it's only a few dollars more than your regular license and you never know.....Hazmat you could opt to pass on if you had that...

Go to this website, and start calling companies. It lists every DOT trucking company in every city in every state. Whether they have 1 truck or thousands. Hope it helps.

with millions of unemployed americans, companies are getting picky as hell... because they can.
now its major problem if you been unemployed... im not sure why no one has filled a lawsuit or why no lawmaker has jumped to help everyone out.
this BS screams out discrimination. -
For hiring trucking companies, work history is a measure of how long you particularly stay in your job positions. No company wants a person who will flip-flop after they have invested money in recruiting you and training you to meet their qualifications. Simple as that, but no work history is like taking a shot in the dark. Companies have too many applicants to have to guess, so they just deny. Its unfair, but who said life would be fair?
