Landstar? Didn't they just mandate Elogs too? Might be first mate but no captain.. Besides a captain doesn't necessarily have to own the ship. Just be able to make money with it.
Captain of the ship...

I remember when they first came out with the CDL. lots of drivers said they were parking them and switching careers. Never happened. When they came out with mandatory drug testing, the same thing again.
So keep on talking about how using an eobr means you're not an owner operator. because I guess you think having a CDL or taking mandatory drug testing means you're not an independent, right?
As far as making money, here is a picture of my truck and trailer. It's paid for. I guess maybe I make enough to get by.

Don't want this to become another Elog thread, but, Yes, one day, when all the cost justification hurdles are jumped. All the privacy issues have been handled, and all the other crap has been cleaned up. Then maybe the 7th district court will step aside and buy into it. But the last time it went to court, those issued were brought up and the plan was set aside. Now you have some companies pushing their lawmakers into trying to add it into a highway bill. I'm sure if that happens, OOIDA will push it get it ruled out again. But we will wait and see.

The simple truth is if 80% of the total number of drivers are using it, and using it without issue, then the rest of us will be mandated to use them. This is common sense. No, I don't agree with it, but I have to admit it will happen.
I also know that the career of trucking has changed from what it was in the late 70's, when I started driving. Of course I remember what it was like when almost everybody, including 4 wheelers used cb's. But I also realize there are far more drivers on the road now than there were at that time. All you have to do is watch t.v. and see all of the new products on the market to know there is a need for way more drivers than there was in the 70's.
We are in an age of new technology, and we have to accept that we will be expected to use it, and e logs are a part of it. OOIDA has fought really hard to keep it away from us, but when the bigger companies embraced it, our gooses were cooked. We will be using eobr's in the future. OOIDA, for who I am a life member, has given it their best shot, is now in a position of not being able to defeat the eobr measure. The ability to mount a law suit does not mean you can win it.
I truly hope you are right, and OOIDA will get it shot down, but I have to be ready for the chance they can't do it.
By the way. OOIDA was able to get it shot down on the basis of driver coercion. Once the issue of having carriers forcing drivers work when they are tired, even though they have available hours to drive is settled, the issues bought up by OOIDA to block the law will be mute. I personally don't think it will take much to accomplish that. But as I said, I hope I'm wrong.stevenneill Thanks this. -
I believe the regulations are here to stay, ebor's will in the future will be mandatory, look at how many companies are now using them. I would imagine it is part of the Map 21 program all ready laid out.

Wanna be more honest It's a good thing. Cause it will eliminate(put out of business) the cheats that cause these constant rule changes and open up more loads and higher rates for O/O's with own Authority. These rules will benefit O/O actually if we just keep doing what were doing and sitting a few days for a good rate load. Think about it. Already with changes the (HOS) industry needs A LOT more drivers cause driving hours cut . takes longer to deliver. Means more loads waiting to be hauled. So when this new elog laws go in affect going to make even more loads waiting to be hauled cause eliminating the cheats that won't change their ways and quit industry. Loads and rates will increase. ..........What ya think looking at it that way? Or am I drinking to much?? LOL (Not drinking but I might start,LOL) CHIME IN O/O"S

How many of you have stopped driving an hour from your scheduled delivery because you're out of hours? Or how many have pulled away from the loading dock after being shafted for hours by a receiver because your 14 are up? Get enough drivers to run totally legal, and we'd all be better off.GITRDUN45 Thanks this.
