Did you signal your lane change? If so, they likely thought you were pulling in. Even if you didn't, they probably had the same thought. If it were me, I wouldn't have made the lane change until I was passing through the gas station driveway. If you want to change lanes and you're concerned about cars coming into the right lane then just take your half out of the middle until you get past the point of danger. I just always assume car drivers are going to do the most incorrect thing and I drive accordingly (comes from surviving 35+ years riding motorcycles).

You did good avoiding them though.

 

They’d been waiting a long time to turn - May have been too focused on the gap in the traffic coming toward you - who knows.

Very poor decision on their part either way.

I assume it was a 30 mph speed limit?
