Talked to Kelly last week. She stated that she did not have any trainers in my area. Therefore they were not hiring from the area. Too bad. They have a terminal with-in 20 miles.. Oh well.

I work for carter and I hate it... I was told I would make .34cpm and that was a lie. If u like to go to Laredo,tx and stay there this is a great company.... Not every time I went there I stayed there from 3-5 days with no pay.. I would call the Laredo yard and they say there's no loads.... Come on it Laredo.. It's hard to get in contract with ur dispatcher have to some times you'll have to call them 10times before they answer the phone. They did not pay for my vacation I had to call payroll and they finally paid me after a month and half.. Worse company I've ever worked for ull make money at Walmart or something.....

taplighty carter is a joke to work ur better on not working for them

I think the problem is that when Hitachi bought 51% of the company...the company focus changed. It is no longer geared toward the driver...it is geared more toward bottom line dollar for the company. Do you know that when they changed the fuel bonus that some of their Senior drivers left. Samantha said that for all the interviews she was doing over in Ohio, she was having to do exit interviews here in Indiana. I will tell you that at the end before my husband left, I was calling every week to get his payroll straightened out. You are right...if you don't tell your DM to pay you for your overnights, detentions, or anything else you won't get paid anything because Carter does not bill their customers for any accessorials. The dispatch office is a joke...sending emails that people never seem to get, and they never pass information along to the next shift that comes in. When a certain DM begged him to drive beyond his hours to meet up with a driver who didn't have very many hours to get the freight to Anderson because it was a hot load. My husband got wrote up for it...and he told the DM don't ever ask me to do that again because I won't do it. He got black bald the next week on runs. He told the DM, I will make sure that I can't go against the logs...and went back to e-logs for about 2 to 3 weeks before he left. We both had to laugh yesterday...because he was sitting at Nestle waiting for his load to get ready. It was weird going up there to pick him up from Nestle and not Carter. We just laughed about it. I hope things get better for you.

I've been with them close to two years and haven't encountered any of the problems others are mentioning here. Yeah, sure, like all companies, they have problems with communications between DM's but the company, in my opinion, is still a drivers company.
You're treated with respect at all levels. Payroll has never been a problem and the two times there was an oversight, it was corrected on the spot, over the phone and steps made to prevent it from happening again.
Yes, you do have to advise the DM's when you have layover time, detention time at the docks, breakdown time etc so they can write it up and submit it, but you do get paid for it, if you do your part. Nothings perfect but they do go the extra mile for the drivers.
Equipment is excellent, well maintained. Vacations are paid, when you request them. Only downside to that is company rules say you will take the vacation instead of like some of us do, just sell the time back to the company and keep working.
Benefits are second to none. Life, Medical, Short and Long Term Disability, Critical care, AD&D, all cost me $100 a week and they're cadillac plans, made better by provisions of the HCAA that has kicked in. Performance Bonuses are obtainable and paid quarterly. Basically, you do your job, you get the bonus. Fuel bonues are paid if your truck hits the mark. Additionally, they pay a penny a gallon for fueling at the terminals. It offsets those who would go to a Pilot to get the driver bonuses there.
IdleAire is paid for with your ComData card at no cost to you. Layovers in Laredo, after 24 hours, they'll pay a motel and $100 a day layover pay, but you have to ask for it.
A person wouldn't go wrong checking out this company, if you're a competent driver.IdleAir Thanks this. -
This post is laughable and almost like you work at a diff company. I just left a few months ago after almost 10 years.....very little of what you said was true from what I seen. Maybe in your 2 years you've been lucky

Don't know what to tell you BigT. That's been my experience with them and I'll probably retire from here. They treat me as I described and have never had the problems others have described. Perhaps the problem doesn't lie with the company but with the individuals.
