Recently bought a Pete with a c-15 ACERT . Previous owner told me they put 150 degree thermostats in. He gave me some 180 degree thermostats and said they never got around to changing them out.
Are the 150s ok or should I swap them out?
Truck never gets hotter than 150 degrees, is this keeping the engine too cool? Will it hurt anything?
Cat c-15. 150 degree thermostat

Not sure that it would hurt anything on the motor but won't get very warm in the cab during winter.

I'm in south Louisiana so winters aren't very cold, just want to make sure running that cool wont cause engine issues as every other cat I've ever run stayed near 180- 200
-
Put the proper stats in. Your not doing the engine any favors running it at 150 all the time . Stock is 192 cat stats

Oxbow Thanks this.

Yes, its not good for cats to have lower stats in them. They are designed/engineered to run at higher temps for better performance

Combustion wont properly combust leading to soot buildup.
Diesels love heat. They dont have spark plugs to ignite the mixture like a gasser!!
Put the right stats in and quit trying to re engineer everything.Oxbow, spsauerland and AModelCat Thank this. -
The 150 thermostats were already in the truck when I bought i . -
I was told to always let my C15 warm to a minimum of 160* before taking off especially if under a load. If you do drive it cooler than that take it easy and dont romp on it until its warmed. The liners could drop because everything hasn't warmed/expanded to operating temp. You did the right thing I wouldn't have driven it until it had the right regulators in it. I'd actually be concerned as to why they really sold it if they had been driving it around like that....
Oxbow and blairandgretchen Thank this.
