Back in 2018 in Virginia when I still had my cdls I caught a possession of marijuana charge and faulty brake light ticket in my personal vehicle.. The cop wrote both tickets for the same date at the same time I went to the first court told them I fixed my brake light and basically the judge said she was going throw everything out..Me being green and young at the time thought the judge was referring to both charges because usually when I go court in my hometown I usually just go to one courtroom…they rescheduled a court date I think but I had missed it…That’s when they issued a warrant out for my arrest..turned myself in. Had to pay fines and reinstate my license but it was weird because I spent the whole day going back n forth from the dmv to the courthouse reason being they both couldn’t figure out if I could reinstate my cdl license or if I had to get regular driver license. The courthouse clerk kept repeatedly saying she didn’t know why nor was the courts responsible for my license being taken away and dmv act like they didn’t know what was going on or had a clue until I found out I had to do everything all over again to get my cdls back… Can somebody please tell me what happened?? because when I Google search there’s nothing really to go by to compare to my situation

It sounds like you only paid fines for the possession charge and didn't have to serve any jail time, is that right?
In any event, it sounds like you don't have a CDL now five years later for any number of reasons. If you want to drive a commercial vehicle again, you'll need to get a CDL, but first you'll need to go to the courthouse and the DMV again and find out exactly what shows on your record. If you have a possession conviction there, you're going to have a hard time getting hired anywhere. Good luck.Last edited: Oct 17, 2023
Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
I’d hire a local lawyer to get things sorted.

Do you have a Class-C drivers license now?
Get a copy of your DMV/MVR and see what's on there.

Then start applying for cdl training at private schools or trucking company cdl schools.Last edited: Oct 17, 2023

If they were suspended over 6 months (180 days) I believe you loose the CDL and start over. I know a couple people that went through similar situations. Got suspended on a failure to appear didn’t catch it and it went past the 180 days.
