He probably doesn't even know what a walk around is. When I was a flatbed driver, walk around was my middle name, ha. There were many times driving down the road on a very windy day and notice a loose strap or two, pull over, tighten and check all straps, and do another walk around for good measure since I was already stopped.

It seems like today a lot of drivers must think those side mirrors are for looks. Of course I get it, after a long day of driving and a person gets tired, they zone out and don't pay attention like they should.

Mike, you hit the nail on the head about drivers not staying in their lane. On a trip out west to Washington for a wedding, I passed a truck who kept going over the dotted lines. I honked my cars horn a couple of times to try and get his attention that I was beside him. I passed him three times (after stopping for gas, or bathroom breaks) and I would recognize him as I got close to pass. Of course he was still crossing the dotted lines every time. He probably never heard my horn, or even cared. It is scary who's behind the wheel these days.

But I will add.. some times one knows of a flat… several years ago going to Chattanooga, right infront of the East bound Manchester scales, trailer tire blew, huge explosion, pulling a tanker, blew the fender off too, the aluminum one over the tandems. Blew it off, mudflap, too.
I put flashers on, knowing the parking are about 4 miles up the road, I’m hauling corrosive liquids permitted for 100,000.

the dude behind me panicked, “Tanker!! You blew tire!! You gotta stop now!!!’
I told him it said safest place, shoulder isn’t safe, I didn’t wanna get hit in rear, lights/flashers on, slowed down to 55, pulled in parking area. 7 hours wait on the tire guy, so I avoided shoulder and maybe having a idiot plow into back of my trailer.

He freaked out because had you been in a movie, video game, or eben an old CHiPs episode that would’ve ended in a huge tanker explosion. Yeck even just the loss of the mudflap could have caused huge chain reaction of destruction.

I’m sure the scale masters were looking. No one ever came out though.

Y’all have convinced me, I’m going to keep my CB radio on. It’s been either quiet or annoying, but I can always turn up the squawk, right?

Back in the 70's, we used the rule of: Call him twice, if he dont answer, either he cant hear you or he dont wanna talk to you.

    Move on after that.

Thats still my policy. Been working pretty well for 50 some-odd years now.

Haven’t had a radio for quite a while now, but I’m just about to get a new truck. Been thinking I might put one in there again. Kind of miss it at times.
