Hello, I am studying for my CDL permit, I have been listening to playbacks of CDL Manuals on Youtube and studying the required parts of my States CDL Manual. I find it easier to listen, then to actually read. My question is, is state manuals really all that different or are they mostly the same? other then maybe the state weight limit laws etc.

Also, scroll to the top of this page and click on "CDL Practice Tests" and memorize as much as possible.
Do this, plus continue what you're already doing and you'll ace the permit test.

in the past, i had linked people to the various states CDL books. they are (in most part) all the same, but, some states do insert some information that might show up in that particular state written test.

best to get a hard copy and peruse that as well. or save this link, and open it as needed.

The whole purpose of creating the CDL is to make the license from one state as identical as possible to the license form another state. Other than taking the Pre-Trip test in IL, one state is about the same as any other state.

I started studying two days ago as I will be taking my permit test in two weeks. I used the CDL Prep app and just kept taking the practice tests until I always got 100% and now I'm reading the questions and answering them in my head explaining it to myself instead of looking for them in the multiple choices for even better memorization since they may be worded differently at the DMV. I have general knowledge and combination down pat already. Still struggling with air brakes memorizing the different allowable leakage rates and things.

You want to impress on your mind the state approved worded answers to questions. Then you will understand two things.

The CDL test the state way on paper.

The actual trucking done as you learn by going along after.

I think out of 66 questions in Maryland and in Arkansas there is only one that mattered The parking brake must hold the truck on any grade that is free from ice and snow.

In real life aint no such thing. 2 feet of snow or a inch of ice, take your pick.

    Good luck.

I recently took every test except hazmat at the BMV in Indiana and the questions were 95% straight out of CDL Prep app. ( the red one, it’s free ) Good luck.
