    So I have had my CDL now for a few months, work for a recovery company. As the economy has improved, business has slowed. I was recovering at least 1 rig a week, but now it is close to 1 every other week, to one a month. I called around and was told recovering trucks s not considered experience, and I should have started working within 60 days of getting my CDL. Is there a way around going back to school, or starting out with a company and go through a refresher course? I realize I need to be with a trainer for x amount of time, but wanted to avoid shelling out cash for a refresher course, or being an indentured slave. I have all endorsements, and a TWIC.

    The deciding factor on whether a company will require a refresher course will be if you fail the road test. Most OTR companies require a road test upon hire.

    So far I have struck out on even a road test, am being told since it has been more than a few months since I obtained my CDL I need to go back and get a refresher. I have been knocking on doors, hoping a handshake and a face to face will get me one.

    I have no other answer besides what was said above; Craigslist, yard signs, knock on doors. It's how I got my gig. That really sux that your gig wasn't considered experience. TOTALLY sux.

    Swift will send you with a trainer but will take you with an aged cdl.

    Did you see the post the other day; driver hasn't driven in 30 yrs. except for sometimes a local road test in a truck he just worked on. Landed a job within 24 hours on Craigslist.

    Don't know if you mind unloading but Any Foodservice will hire you now. They are pulling drivers out of school or warehouse and getting them their CDL's.

    Yeah, @Mike2633 just told a couple new guys that, re: GFS. That's hard arse work though, man. No thanks... I got my current (7 year) gig thru local advertisement / yard sign.
