If he is rambling on he is sure to fail.

Nothing about the pre-trip test is about wasting time. The examiner is looking for specific points of interest and inspection. If his isn't getting that he is wasting everybody's time and they will have no problem failing him.

Those examiners did not waste their time learning that pre-trip point for point to listen to a bunch of guys ramble on about nothing.

I did. And I am the one that originated the pre trip rap ( my idea ), at an outside CRE school.

Maybe my choice of words was BAD .. forgive me.. I do not really mean RAMBLE.. but seriously.. we have been told that taking a CDL test in PA could be 3 hours long..

I called a Private CDL testing site.. the man was helpful and friendly... he was telling me more drivers fail here & have to come back.... I asked him what he recommends... he told me to look at this "you tube video" below.. it's like an HOUR LONG .. his talking....

I do not Mean RAMBLE.. I mean - speaking clearly , intently but getting it all in - as to not miss anything.. does it really take 45 minutes to an hour..and if not.. why did this Testing site recommend this video to him...

Oh I just realized that is a CLASS A -pre-trip.. he just needs a Class B - and for school bus.. maybe it would be shorter.. He does have a stack of papers they gave him...I'd like to find something similar on you tube though... if possible... I did send you an email Taylor Driving.. thank you!

As far as I know, the Pre trip is something like 45? Points. Meaning you start at a point on the truck, go up and down front to back and YOU touch and say what the exact nomenclature is. You explain what it is that you are looking for.

I.e. lug nuts. I look to make sure they're all there, none are loose, theres no oil on them and there is no white powder residue on them.

This is what you have to do for every piece you are required to inspect. You need to name the correct nomenclature by its official name, and exactly what you are looking for.

Don't screw this part up, testing sites are known to fail you because you called something by its street name. Or said they checked the engine and it's still there.

It took me some 15-20 minutes on a tractor trailer and I only got 3 wrong/missed. So it does take time when you take your time, explain everything to the "t".

I didn't watch the video, because I know what I'm doing and find watching videos on how to do my job annoying. But to the point, he's repeating himself because when you test you don't want to be saying umm and uhh and oh I forget what that is. Hence he repeats to gain muscle memory and the more you repeat, the better you will retain information.

    Repetition repetition repetition.

When you test, the PTI should roll off your tongue like you know what you are doing.

I have a question...my son is in Texas and has taken the pre trip part twice and he said he nailed the test but they failed him. They won't tell him why he failed or what he did wrong. My son has a mechanic background and those terms and things aren't foreign to him so we are upset and would like to know why he failed. Makes no sense why they wouldn't t tell a person what they did wrong so they can improve and get it the next time! Very frustrated just wondering if anyone knew why they won't say or if they have had this problem in any other state
