I took the CDL test on this site. I don't remember if it was general knowledge, air brakes or combination vehicles but I have found some of the questions are misleading and in my opinion flat out incorrect. Example: The question was "The brake drums are:" A. Located on the ends of the axles. B. Bolted to the wheels. C.Hold the brake shoes D. all of the above.
Technically the brake drums are NOT bolted to the wheels but rather the HUB as are the wheels. The drums don't HOLD the brakes shoes. The shoes are mounted in the brake assembly which is mounted to the axles. The drums are however located on the end of the axle so I chose answer A. The answer was D. All of the above. I say that's BULL HOCKEY!
So I reviewed the manual and it states that the wheels ARE bolted to the drums. The braking mechanism is inside the drum. I still say that question was misleading but if the DMV says its so I guess it is!
