Does the truck driving school that I might go to have to be accredited?

A PDTI certified school may give you an advantage in applying at certain companies.

Some companies don't care and some do; just so the course is 160 hrs. or longer. Either way, you will find a job, especially if you have all the endorsements, TWIC, passport.

I doubt that you will find an "accredited" truck driving school, and would question what a carrier means by accredited. You might take a course at an accredited college or university, and the course might be approved by the Higher Learning Commission or equivalent, but not an "accredited" truck driving school. In many cases, a course offered by a college or university will be eligible for college credit. If so, it may also be eligible for Title IV funding including Pell and subsidized and un-subsidized loans.

I would suspect that every truck driving school would have to be credentialed (licensed) in the state in which it operates. There are also industry recognized standards such as PTDI, CVTA, etc. Select carriers may only take entry-level drivers from a school with one of these credentials, I know of one carrier that only accepts Veterans as entry-level drivers.

As stated above, many carriers use 160 clock hours as a standard. If you have one or more carriers in mind for employment opportunities, contact them for their specific requirements before signing on the dotted line. A little research on the front end generally results in a better experience.

    Best of luck.
