You are in the neighborhood of $1200/week in fixed costs. Truck payment, permits, insurance.

    Miles? That's on you.
Pay after truck payment? That's on you as well. It's up to you to run the truck as profitable as possible. Run high miles at low rates, your pay will suffer. Run low miles and don't hustle multiple loads, your pay will suffer.

Your miles and pay is all up to you.
If you wanted to you could do 4000 miles in a week but someone doing 2500 miles would probably be more profitable.

How do they figure miles on loads, HMG or actual? Do you have a choice between percentage and miles? The 1200/wk mentioned above is that a lease or purchase (new/used). Thanks!

Unless you have been far more fortunate than I, pick your own freight is a must. The last company I was with paid 80%. The only loads that I ever saw that paid me near or over $2 mile came from Landstar or JBH. The thing with a dispatcher is every company has their bread and butter customers, and no matter where I was I just always seemed to wind up back in Dallas to pull one of those fecking loads for $1.20. I averaged $2,500 / wk. after all the blue sky, before taxes, before maintenance. Van. Usually 2500 miles a week.

As long as your in a place where you cannot pick your own, your never going to get the really big check. Cause there is always gonna be some wah baby that is going to quit, because he can't get anything done, and is starving, so he gets the load that would really make you, or there's the relative, or your dispatcher just doesn't show up for a day or two, so the fill in dispatcher gives you some BS load to make you go away.

I would never lease, while using company dispatch..youll be getting just enough miles,to make your truck payment.
Choice lets you choose your own freight, where you can keep yourself in a busy freight zone, while weighing the affects of the weight of load and terrain traveled.

You're spot on. Always, always remember that and good luck. I would suggest freightwhipper's, Sadwar's, or Diesel Fuel Only's threads. You'll learn everything you ever needed to know.
