I was a military cop. Never got OT pay either. In my mind the American Police Force should all undergo military style training and have the strictest physical requirements as well as heavy classroom time. I’ve seen Houston cops so fat they waddle and puff and weave as they approach the driver side window of the car they just pulled over; you’d think the stop was made because the car sped out of a fast food drive thru and the cop was looking for a super sized bribe and milkshake.
Along with this training should come with an honor code whereas they know they’ll be treated more harshly for crimes they commit then the average citizen due to the trust and authority they are given.
With this should come higher pay and benefits for the police and access to better equipment. But they lose the badge if they get too fat and cant chase down an Antifa thug who just stole a Rolex and punched an old lady.
CHP officers in big trouble.

But Joe blow two steps away from a heart attack suffering from alcoholism and diabetes is a fine deputy.
Or the local Barney fife who can't lift an 80pb bag of dog food because of a back injury. He can run but is made of paper and glass.
I agree with you -
I know of a deputy here that was recently let go because of his physical status after being there a bit. Now he works at a very small town PD.JoeyJunk Thanks this. -
I don't expect a police officer to be a lawyer, but there are so many that don't know the law or enforce what they "feel" should be a law it's disgusting.
The nation needs far more training for it's police officers. Less para military and more physical fitness, laws and social services training.
We don't need every cop to be a high speed low drag door kicker, we need the majority to keep their temper in check and enforce the law to the letter.mjd4277, JoeyJunk, gentleroger and 2 others Thank this. -

You pay well below average pay and that’s what happens. Most departments barely meet the minimum living standards.

One person I worked with lost his temper on a regular basis, he was terminated. A person in the neighboring department lost his temper, he was terminated. Believe it or not, police departments DO weed out problems within themselves. They don't just sweep them under the rug and wait for civil suits to start coming in.okiepokerplayer, drvrtech77, GoneButNotForgotten and 2 others Thank this. -
