I guess they'll have to arrest themselves, and recite Miranda to themselves.

Only in THE COMMUNIST STATE would they prosecute the state police for $950 whilst armed thugs freely burn down the city.

I'm always available if they need kerosene or flares.

I'm not gonna turn this into a huge pissing match because chances are we'll never see eye to eye on this situation lol I'm just gonna say this...you're drawing the conclusion that every police department in the US is the same as the few bad police departments that have made extremely poor decisions that ended in lawsuits. Well, they're not all bad. I worked for a chief who was probably the biggest #### head in the state, but he ran a very organized department and if anyone was out of line they were disciplined or terminated. I know countless other departments that operate the same way. Guess all I'm trying to say is, there's more good than bad out there. I'm glad I'm out of it to say the least

I went to google a recent news article about two Tennessee officers who committed acts of spoliation, but found this as the first result:

Former Assistant District Attorney Among Nine Indicted in Year-Long Investigation

What I was looking for was:

    https://www.newschannel5.com/news/n...-prosecutor-booked-into-the-giles-county-jail

    Then there's this:

Many dishonest police officers on Brady lists still work, testify

    And this:

Some of the Past Complaints Against Chicago Cop Charged in Teen’s Slaying

    Or this:

Chicago police use 'cover charges' to justify excessive force - The Chicago Reporter

    Or maybe this:

    https://via.library.depaul.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?referer=&httpsredir=1&article=1132&context=jsj

    And this:

One year probation for Kyle Baars, former Kenosha police officer accused of planting evidence

    Or this:

Kenosha PD pays for billboard featuring officer under investigation

    Then there's this:

Chicago Police Union Elects Officer Stripped of Police Powers

    Or this:

Chicago’s Abusive Police State Is Untenable

Or maybe you want to talk about city governments covering for police

That's Chicago, you say. I included links for Kenosha, but if you want a more diverse viewpoint:

    Policing for Profit

Nearly 200 Wisconsin Officers Back On The Job After Being Fired Or Forced Out

Ex-Florida deputy gets 12 years for planting drugs

Federal Court Says Every Drug Dog In Utah Is Unreliable

In Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, 89% of Those Arrested for Jaywalking Are Black

No matter how you want to slice it, America has a policing problem. Whether it's covering for bad cops, policing for profit, militarization, or just plain racism - we have a problem. The most basic iteration of this problem is it's still standard procedure for an officer to ask "do you know why I stopped you?". It should be SOP for the officer to state their name and the reason for initiating contact. It's a process that is endorsed by the National Association of Police Chiefs, but not what is practiced.

You can say police departments police themselves yet the story of Michael Bell says different.

I want to reply to a couple of statements. I worked three years as a Military Police and just a little over 33 years as a city cop.

If the officers did what they are accused of I have no sympathy for them or their fate.

Police officers do get let go just like workers from all types of employment are fired or resign. Some officers are let go during the field officer training program. Generally, you just do not hear about it. There are about 18,000 state, county, special districts and local law enforcement agencies in the United States. Those 18,000 are not sweeping everything under the rug. Do things get swept under the rug yes but that happens in most jobs. Not all trucking companies are the same and not all police departments are the same.

Most City Police of Chiefs are at will employees. They do not want to risk having anything happen that may cause them to be let go. They will gladly get rid of an officer to keep their job. I used to say that once a person becomes a Chief, he is more politician than a cop.

We unionized in the department I worked for and it was not to keep bad officers employed. The Union got us holiday pay. The union mandated that officers were not issued someone's old uniforms when they left, and you needed a new uniform. Prior to the union someone could call a complaint in on an officer and the complaint could be put in their file without notifying the officer or doing an investigation. The list goes on.

What I can't figure out is what in the hell were those guys thinking? Sooner or later, on an operation that big, somebody is going to run their mouth at the wrong time or there's going to be an audit.
To risk the pension and benefits that they had for a few bucks in phony overtime money is just stupid.
