6 Simple Rules For Drinking In Your Truck While Off-Duty:
1. If you stop at a liquor store, don't take yourself off-duty in the parking lot. That will be recorded. Leave yourself in "Driving," get in and out quickly.
2. Don't walk in front of the truck with liquor or beer, walk behind it.
3. Don't let other truck drivers see you with liquor or beer. SOME other truck drivers are d#@*heads.
4. Only drink with your curtains closed and doors locked. And if it's a nice temperature outside, take your key out of the ignition as an extra precaution.
5. Finish what you bought, OR be prepared to throw out what's left the next morning.
6. Throw everything out the next morning, before you hit the road - in a non-transparent bag. Also, don't be glancing around like some criminal while you're depositing it in the trashcan, just throw it away like normal trash and walk on.TripleSix and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -
I have not : "listened to way too many super trucker stories at the coffee counter" since 1958, when I left Beneke running team to CA. Joined the Army, served, and got into other things as my life progressed.
During this progression, I remained in touch with my friends in trucking and was often involved in buying, repairing, hauling equipment on my own company's trucks or rented rigs.
As for actual knowledge, all I can offer is: I have stood at his passenger door, plotting our next stop/delivery and seen the bottle, been offered from it, and told how he made the described use of it.
I have not been privileged/burdened with the association of enough "drunks" to be aware of their personal handling of their bottles.
And as a parting observation... In my time, we had no truckers or super truckers. Just drivers...
We went and come, took care of the loads, the truck, and the customers wants. Earned our nickel a loaded mile or $75.00 a week + expenses. Were trusted out with $200.00 or $300.00 cash for fuel and expenses, and on occasion collect for the load at $8,000.00 in cash.MAMservices, ElmerFudpucker, jcatel and 4 others Thank this. -
