A permit validates that you have taken and passed the written portion of the test.
So with that in mind most companies will not allow you to drive until you have completed their course or have went to a driving school and have taken the driving portion of the cdl test. That is when you will receive your license.
After that you will most likely be required to spend time with a trainer until he is satisfied you can handle the truck and the job. Being a driver is more than just driving, you have to learn your way around and learn all the paperwork that goes with it.
Having your permit and dot physical in hand when you show up to your new company can be a bit of a jumpstart over the other students you will be there with though. While they are still going thru the process you may be afforded the opportunity to get some one on one training before the rest of the group catches up to you.
So it can be an advantage. -
Western is in West Sac, just before the causeway on the north side next to 80/50. And WesternPacific is out on Fruitridge east of Florin Perkins.
Good Luck and be safe -
