Just renewed my physical in August. My boss switched from Concentra to another medical company. Boss said Concentra was issuing 6 month and one year medical cards to some drivers. Boss didn't like that.

They started in that I was borderline for DOT mandated sleep apnea testing. I handed them my DOT manual and asked them to point it out. Suddenly I'm not well liked for some reason.
FMCSA, DOT, nor the AMA (American Medical Association ) have set standards on who needs sleep apnea testing.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -

Social Security is the King of Disability if you are not able to continue work as a Trucker. They take a while to approve your situation usually about a year of denials until you show up before the administrative judge to decide. If approved you will get your back pay in one check within a few weeks and medicare in two years. (They start deducting something like 130 to 150 dollars a month from your SSdI for that unless you bring DHS into the battle and have them take care of that premium.)
Taking on a employer due to a disability is something that is a loss to you. Again, when someone in general has a disability and cannot continue to hold a valid DOT medical and drive in trucking, then Social Security is the next stop. You would submit your records from the medical doctors who have told you that you cannot work. Which is the supporting of your situation.
Your lifetime earnings over a minimum time in quarters will be examined and that will become the basis for your monthly income. Every few years you will face a medical review and what generally happens is a expanding amount of medical work as you attempt to remedy that disability or mitigate it.
That does not mean you cannot work at all you can do some part time. Up to a certain amount. over that then SS will deduct two to one each month based on your earnings. You will be paying taxes on your earnings but not the disability.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
That would be ADHD. I've made a post about this before; but ill give a brief summary of what's going on.
I got my CDL with Roehl; but I was terminated before I got to go solo due to failing to complete their training program. (I was too slow in Load Securement.)
So I decided to move on to Swift to give Dry van a try. However, upon reviewing my DOT physical paperwork, they notice that ADHD is not listed on it and they send me home to get a mental evaluation done. I got the menial evaluation done as requested by Safety compliance, and by a PHD level Psychologist and faxed the paperwork back to Swift.. However, they still rejected it. The reason why? They found out that there is a Psychiatrist in the same office and now want his evaluation as well.
Ive already contacted the FMCSA and found out that my original DOT physical is still valid in my situation; so im just going to switch companies at this point.
Also, keep in mind that this has lasted across two months now; and not only am I on unpaid vacation basically, im also paying for the evaluations out of pocket.
For the reasons I have stated above; I believe that I've been discriminated against solely based off of my ADHD and not if im safe or not.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
