Hi! I just started training with my man to drive Tractor trailer...I have a current CDL B and want my A! Here's our delima, with ELD do I have to keep a log book? I am sure I do! So would my hubby be disconnected from the ELD while I am driving? So many confusing things I have read about this! How does this work! Is he to be on duty not driving? Please someone explain this process to me!
Thanks,
Heather❤

I'm trying to think of some trainers to raise up for you...... @mickeyrat ... don't you train for your place? Any input? I trained my wife on paper MANY years ago, and yes she had her own log book.
My thoughts are that if you don't even have your CDL P you can't drive yet (legally...)
I know that people who team have an ELD that does dual logging.
I just got my dang tablet this year, after being on paper for over 20, and still learning...sorry I couldn't be more help. Still trying to think up some trainers for ya.....
Best wishes, all around!otterinthewater and Msheather1972 Thank this. -

I know I can drive, but am thinking my husband has to be on duty, not driving. Our app we use is called keeptruckin.....so it has a place for dual drivers. But with having a CLP I dont see anything in research that TRULY explains the rules behind being trained with my permit. Legally I know I can drive w a licensed CDL driver on roadways.
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
@scottied67 .... any videos?
@JReding .. you around?
Just thinking of ppl that know the ELD's better'n me. I can for sure say that you DO need to be logged as on duty driving even with a permit, and he can run against his 14 (ODND) while you are behind the wheel.
Best I've got.
Looked up your app and didn't see an answer either...sorry.Samuelh, Msheather1972 and scottied67 Thank this. -

No, I don't have any videos on this subject.... yet lol.
Just going off memory, I do think the 'trainer' has to be up logged On Duty while the 'student' driver is operating though. I have heard of a couple companies out there petitioned and were granted exemptions from this requirement meaning the 'trainer' could log Sleeper while the 'student' drives- CR England was one and I think Swift or CRST was the other? Scary stuff...
@G13Tomcat too funny you called Jerry and me in the same post LOL Jerry and I had coffee a little while ago when he was passing through town!G13Tomcat and Msheather1972 Thank this. -
Thank you, I have done a bunch of reading today on the net...its just not very clear.
