I’ve been sober for 12 years. I got arrested for felony aggravated assault, and that smartened me up.
Does this mean that you believe that even though I’m clean, and have a solid track record of being clean, I should still be locked up, and gotten rid of forever?
This lock em up and throw away the key mentality will never work, with those that have addiction problems. You need a few things in order for one to succeed in becoming sober. IMHO, you need treatment for the individual, education and counseling for the individual, and MOST importantly the individual must want to become sober. Without that, it is futile. I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be consequences or incarceration for crimes committed, there absolutely should be. But, one needs to have a balanced and logical strategy when dealing with addiction because addiction is like a Hydra, it has many heads, thus many layers, and is very complex.
