My situation is that I retired at 60 years old when my wife passed. My CDL-A is current with no restrictions. My DOT medical card I kept updating with the required physicals and is current with no issues. Nothing negative on my license. I have been retired 5 years from last job.Been off of the road for longer than 15 years. Now I am finding it a real challenge to come back. My retirement at 60 is consider by some, to be unemployed and without work. Retirement is by choice, being unemployed is not the same. The trucking industry and regulations change and I have no problem taking a training course, refresher course or whatever is needed to be considered for a driving job. I am in Southwestern Ohio. I had about 18 months driving dry van. Are there any companies that hire those coming out of retirement?

    put on application retired.
If they’ve a problem with that, probably not a good place anyway, would be a nitpicking company.

But you may need to take a 'refresher' course either with your new company or a local school......a couple of days....no big deal

We'll find something for you. Some drivers on here haven't driven in 20 years and found work.
With the economy in rough shape right now, refrigerated trucking is your best bet. We'll give you some names of reefer & dry van companies to apply with.
Best to submit applications before any phone calls. This way, when you do call, the company will already have your application on file, which you can remind them of.
Be sure to tell any company you're perfectly willing to go through training again.

Thanks for the quick reply. That is exactly what I did. I was very upfront with it. My work history never had any gaps from the time I started working. You are right more than likely a blessing in disguise.

I appreciate this. Thank you. That was my plan. Refrigerated is the path I choose going forward.

What kind of schedule are you looking for? OTR, home daily?
