well taking your eyes off the road to change channels on the radio or pick up a water bottle isn't illegal is it.. but holding your cell phone or driving without your seat belt on is...

At night your cell screen lights the cab up

 

I've personally been shown a couple of camera clips from my terminal manager. The angle of the camera against the windshield won't catch the light of a radio or a phone on a dash mount. However it plainly shows a silhouetted hand holding a phone with the lit-up screen. Use of a phone with my company is limited to Bluetooth headsets, but holding it is obviously prohibited.

So I guess if you're gonna have your phone in your hand, make sure you don't accidentally give the camera a reason to record a driving event

Also the camera will pick up phones during the night. Sometimes during the day too but the conditions have to be just right.

 

There is no reflection when the camera is mounted directly to the glass...side mirrors maybe

If you have ever wondered why trucking companies want cameras this is why. The driver was lying his ### off and he deserves to lose his CDL.

 

Pretty hard to fake a tire blow out, and also hope that the company driver-facing camera somehow stops working right when you want. Guy probably figured it was worth a try. I feel for the guy. Had he told his boss he was too tired to drive and pulled over, he probably would've dealt with some retaliation for being too "lazy."

 

So he just kept on driving? At some point, this becomes the driver's fault and not any body else. If you're falling asleep at the wheel you pull over and stop. Unless he's doing it several times a day nobody is going to fire him. He needs to grow a pair and not worry about making some dispatcher grumpy.
I've had drivers call in and tell me that they need to shut it down for an hour or so. I'd rather they do that than crash.

 

Exactly, we only issue CDLs to adults yet society is teaching so called adults to always be a victim and never take ownership of your ####ups. We need to hold people accountable or things will just continue to slide into the #### house.
