For all the "It only records if prompted by a safety event" crowd. Go check out a post about "In-Cab Cameras" in the Canadian Truckers section. They are ALWAYS watching you.

dewayne higgins trucking - mulberry, ar. reefer weekly california and back runs. trucks must stay at local terminal for 34+ weekend. currently no cameras at all

woodfield inc - camden, ar. i think 2yrs experience required. regional/otr dry van and regional/otr conestoga flatbed. outward facing always, driver facing capable but will only be temporarily turned on if youve done something wrong. tara(recruiter) was the one to tell me they are against driver facing cams for driver privacy without me even saying anything which is big to me, even though i did put on my applications i quit my last job over ai driver facing cams. i got hired on here for regional/otr conestoga flatbed last week and loving what i see here so far, although i know its too soon to say much and be taken seriously

kllm: outward only, not sure about audio, but unlikely; supposedly only records in a crash. I’ve not heard about it recording hard brakes, but supposedly if the platform science tablet generates a red alert (I’ve gotten them for following distance) it sends video. Safety doesn’t care about occasional following distance alerts, just people who do it regularly; I had a bump misalign the radar and it started generating red alerts for people in the lane next to me, they routed me to a yard to get it fixed.

the platform science tablet does have a forward facing cam but isn’t used; afaik there are no plans to use the hardware that way and I’ve had mine taped over since receiving it (I’m paranoid). Now the tablet probably does have a mic, but not aware of it being used to record sound. I’m pretty sure kllm doesn’t need to learn the lesson of the liabilities from inward recording capacity.

Now that Ryder acquired them, all the trucks will probably get inward facing cameras soon.

Crete Carrier, Shaffer Trucking, Hunt Transportation : no cameras "unless you earn one" with tickets, accidents, etc. Then it is for a limited time, two or three months I think, till you're out of hot water with safety. They sent out a poll a couple years ago asking if you would quit if they installed cameras, with separate answers for outward only and both inward and outward. Apparently the response was overwhelming, so no cameras.

The new Trimble tablets have a small built in camera on the front, but I cover it with tape just in case, just like I do with my laptop.

Just saw this now, but yes, we were told that it was coming. No worries for me, though. I have since relocated back to Pennsylvania and am rejoining my former employer, a small locally owned mom&pop that does have outward cameras, but will NEVER install inward facing ones.
