First time I hear that a company calls DOT on their own drivers for HOS violations. Definitely contest the ticket, it was a logging error, not a violation of HOS. You were driving after the required rest time, that is what matters the most.

When you are HOS complaint but your ELD says otherwise, I don't see a reason not to proceed. When are NOT HOS complaint but your ELD says you're good to go, don't you even think about it.

all it would have taken was 3-5 minutes to stop and fix.

True but hopefully not on a shoulder with the flashers on. I am just saying it ain't big emergency to correct it, might as well do it at the next 'planned' stop.

It obviously wouldn’t apply in OP’s case, but there are many of us who work under the local exemption for companies based out of state.

For us it’s just a matter beginning and ending your day at the same place regularly and staying within the air mile radius of the terminal we work out of.

I was pulled over by highway patrol and he said "your company called us". I wouldnt have been pulled over otherwise. I hope they do impact their safety rating.

Oh....well.....at least you didn't get fired. The other guys told you some good advice on what to do next time. Take all that advice in and tighten up.

Bean Jr. and gentleroger Thank this.

It has nothing to do with being young. You made an ill-advised decision and it cost you big time. At this point, you gotta own your foul up and do better. Don't get in your feelings, take the earned criticism like a man and try not to do anything to get more earned criticism going forward. As I said, take all the advice given and tighten up.

Yeah thats what I will say. No real violation occured just a logging error. I hadnt noticed the error and cannot use the phone to correct logs while driving. Thats really the best I can argue and its the truth. If they still want to cite me oh well just pay it and it could be worse.
