Not everyone can be home on xmas. Product still needs to be moved. I can understand that.

But telling a driver they can go home on xmas, then not letting them, is inexcusable.

Honesty is critical. We deliver loads to customers on time, the companies should deliver us to our houses on time.

I can suggest Crete / Shaffer without feeling guilty, if they live near one of our terminals. Good pay for a mega, and good, solid miles. The trucks are not fancy, but there are a fair number of terminals spread across the US. They offer company or owner operator positions. They do not even have a lease purchase program, so you dont have to be worried about being hornswaggled into that.

The driver managers have been good to me, but not perfect. A couple squabbles about annoying loads, but nothing serious.

They have always been truthful with me, and rarely have screwed up any of my home time in the last almost-2-years.

The only truly annoying thing they have done that impacted me in the last nearly two years is switching to the Peoplegarbage Elogs, instead of staying with Omnitracs.

Good job 8th note. I agree, it's not that difficult and sounds like you are doing a great job for your drivers. My manager also asked me well in advance if I wanted to be home for Christmas. All of our drivers who requested it were routed home for the holiday.

    Farmerbob1 and bzinger Thank this.

Yep. Mine got me home on Saturday morning and I have a load planned for Wednesday that they set up before I even got to the house. And it was almost 600 miles of deadhead on their dime to get me here. OP needs to do his year and then move on. It will get better, but not where he or she is currently at.

If they are treating you like this the best you can do is leave when you have your 1 year. You will only make your future in trucking more difficult if you quit under dispatch. If you give this type of company any idea you are unhappy and preparing to leave they will make your already hard time more difficult. Decide what you need from your next company and then get yourself in contact with drivers at that company. Do not think you can read some web pages and read some online ads and have enough information to change companies.

This may not apply to you, but my experience is most newbies simply will not listen to anyone warn them that the company they are about to start working for will treat them badly and they should find another company. Yes, every company had good and bad reviews. But, the companies with the worst reviews have tons of bad reviews and a couple of management employees posting good reviews. My rule is never, no matter what, ever, no matter what, work at a company until you talk to current drivers. Ask them specific questions about t=whatever you need to know and LISTEN. You are wasting your time if your questions are "do they pay good" and "will I get home?". Be specific and use real numbers.

Good luck on your next company.

I have something lined up..and other places im interested in, but they want me to do a full year at my current job even know i have a years experience. I see the requirements of those employers as ressonable.

Dry van then reefer is okay. I also have an x endorsement and yet to haul a hazmat load. Although ive hauled batteries and detergent.
Honestly i think i would like to try every out fit as funny as it may sound. I want to flat bed...i want to haul some cars..i want to haul some hazmats and tankers and cylinders and see what its like to feel liquid sway and swoosh around...i think the only thing i dont have a real interest in is HEAVY... as in big, big stuff, haul. I mean a back hoe that hangs over the edges would be ok but nothing extremely big.
For the time being though for my next outfit ill stick with dry van and or reefer.
