I have the same model and engine, but would never let it go down in Auto mode, 2200 rpm. I set it for manual and lock it in the gear I want and the jake setting I want and keep it about 1700 rpm max.
My theory is getting up around or over 1800 rpm is going to blow the turbo sooner or later.
Company removing manual gear selection override on automatic trucks?

I have the DD-15 / DT-12 combo.
And I was talking to a Detroit guy last year. He said the engines were designed to do just that. -
In my experience it creeps up past the 2 miles per hour over the set cruise speed limit, sometimes up to 10 miles per hour over before it goes into deep downshifting and jumps up to 2200 rpms which is crazy in certain situations, say it's raining or especially if there were snow on the highway. Great way to end up in a jackknife.
Last month I saw a driver same truck as mine, Freightliner, DD15/DT12 using Auto mode stuck on a small tiny uphill bunnyhill blocking 12 miles of traffic behind him (I was going the other way in Manual mode). -
I always descend hills in manual if I'm using jakes. In auto, the computer downshifts and the RPM's jump around dramatically. If I'm on a winding road I put it in manual and allow the jakes to help slow it through the curves--something that I wouldn't even consider in auto with the computer shifting erratically with the jakes on. If my company ever got rid of that option, that's when the truck would be getting turned in.

Is this Schneider their talking about..?

Got to 1:48 on the video...can't stand that guys stupid looking hat. I'm sure he's a nice guy...but that hat makes me wanna punch him in the throat.
As for the title and content of the video and this thread? Not an issue with me, and never will be....I refuse to drive an auto of any make or model. I would turn down the job if that's what was offered, and I'd quit the job if one was forced on me after any amount of time.topher45, Boattlebot and scottied67 Thank this. -
Cat sdp Thanks this.
