Just another piece of #### for us to eat.
In my 579,Im forced to use low mode, prevents upshifts, and downshifts at earliest opportunity.
Pretty much lets you stay in 8Th gear coming down grades.
If you need to down shift another gear, slow to about 35 and you will get 7th.
    Stupid ####.

I think it's crazy a company is legally allowed to alter the way the truck operates from the factory that involves safety. The mechanics should refuse doing this for liability reasons. I personally wouldn't want to rely on an automatic transmission selecting the right gear going steep grades fully loaded. When i start if i get a truck like this i will refuse to drive it or find another company to work for. This is why i watch youtube truckers for these little bits of information that new guys wouldn't know.

I posted up a thread about a year ago my reviews of the auto transmission, my advice at that time and still is, new drivers should be running manuals for at least a year before being cut loose on autos.

This is not about auto transmissions vs manual it's about the company disabling the option of manually selecting a gear or low gear in a automatic truck.

If it's the Lethbridge company I'm thinking of .. they chased away half their best owner ops and looks like they are doing the same to company drivers .. got to love new ownership

Then my advice would apply times 10 because how is a new driver even going to know what went wrong when they are careening down the road sideways.

If the Jake brakes go out, going downhill. I don't see how a manual transmission will help you. You use your brakes to hold the truck back. In the snow you don't want to use Jake brakes going down hill.

I just got autoshift couple months ago and the auto Jake's and auto downshift does take getting used to but it very strong hat holding truck back at 2300 RPMs.

In bad weather or winter you turn the Jake brakes off like your suppose to including the cruise control and it just like any truck going downhill. You use your brakes and go slower. When roads are dry you can let the autoshift and auto Jake's do it's thing.

These guys living in the red cascadia.....5 years and they wonder why they are not happy with their truck. After five years of teaming, they could've bought a new truck and make twice the money month hauling refrigerated coast to coast.

I don't watch them a lot but they never planned on being a "trucker" and had a 5 year plan to get out. They are getting out of driving i think in the next month. They flip houses too they seem to do pretty well money wise overall.
