I started a local job. Pay is low but needed to work until I find something better. Shift is 13-14 hours a day. I did two days orientation and started my route. I get enough time off to sleep, eat, and shower since the 10 hours start once I go off duty and does not include commute to and from home.
Today my employer told me that I needed to complete 6 online training courses at home, one of which is almost 3 hours long. What are the laws regarding this? I already don’t have much time with my family, exhausted after a 70 hour work week plus 10 hours commute, am I obligated to spend time doing unpaid work at home? I’m extra annoyed because the sup micromanages and is super anal about everything! It’s to the point where he saw me drinking a Monster energy drink and told me that’s a no no and to drink 5 hour instead. I’m held up by traffic and come back 15 minutes late my phone is ringing immediately. These training videos come out weekly and I don’t feel like my little bit of family time should be reduced even more with this unpaid training especially when the pay is so low. What are the laws regarding this?

You are being directed to work by the motor carrier. It's on-duty. That said, there are no laws that prevent the company from making you do them at home. Just get home, go on duty, do one and let the fallout happen. I find it hard to believe you have so few options unless your record is so bad you should be doing something else.Suspect Zero Thanks this.

My record is spotless. My health is the problem. I had Covid really bad and can’t do my old job that was touch freight because I have lingering respiratory issues (which is getting better but still not 100%). Had one job with team driver who was horrible and she later failed drug test, another job where 2 trucks broke down, wasted almost three weeks trying to get another before I left. Made no money. This job started right away so hopped on it just to feed my family. I’ve been trying to work for months now.
I already said that I needed to go on duty to do the training and was out of hours but was told that I did not because I was not driving. Just looking for legal citation. I know for non trucking jobs this is a labor violation but unsure of how it works in trucking. I’m actively looking for a better job but still need this one until something guaranteed comes through. -
When he would of told me.that .. I would of told him to ..." Go F ...himself ".. and out the door I would of walkedhomeskillet, Dennixx and ZVar Thank this.

You can take the courses even when out of hours but still on duty. You just can't drive on public roads.
Your 10 hour break starts when you're done with the course.
Show up later to work. If the boss complains, tell him the training needs to be on duty. -
What wrong with you, your mommy didn’t hug you enough.Watching a video is abuse?man doesn’t take much for you to start crying I’m being mistreated.you must be as much big a drama queen as he is. I can’t unload anymore because of breathing issues from Covid please.I’ve done jobs from food service to furniture, textiles in store delivery tailgating it’s not loosing your breath your not running a marathon it’s your back.Last edited: Mar 10, 2022

Must be someone like QC.
When quality carriers bought the company I worked for out, they started every month making every driver do safety videos.
Some were about waterway safety, some that dispatchers and management should watch.
But if you didn’t do it, you’d be ineligible for dispatch.
At first they paid you “On Duty Classroom” time, then they quit that, to expensive I guess.
But drivers don’t stick together, always some that do it, so you’ve got two choices.
1.)Follow their rules.
2.)Quit. -
Yep. You sound just like the woman who stays with a guy that beats her. "It's not that bad." "He doesn't beat me much." "It's my fault for angering him." etc.....
Simple fact is there are too many jobs available to allow the company to abuse you.
