There is a local trucking company I have discovered that I can't find much info about. They have a very nice, professional website and claim to have been around for 35 years.
They offer "guaranteed" weekly base pay at what seems to be pretty competitive.
The company is called Veriha - http://www.veriha.com/
Here is the specific section I'm interested in:
I'm just wondering if there is a consensus about this type of pay structure as a trucker. I can imagine they use and abuse you, and I'm sure people will say "it depends on the company". But I'm just wondering what those of you with experience think about this type of thing.
As a "wannabe trucker" this sounds pretty awesome as far as starter pay. But I would imagine it includes some sort of time commitment contract and runs the risk of them "making sure you earn your money" in a way that benefits the company much more than it benefits the driver. Not that I'm worried about working hard or anything, but I can see the threat of saying "job expectations were not met" being a tool to make drivers go the "extra mile".
Any input would be appreciated.
Consensus on *guaranteed* weekly base pay?

K&B Transportation has something similar. It's for real, but you have to earn it; no goofing off or refusing loads. Probably if you cause a problem such as being late with no good excuse or refusing a load, then that weeks work converts to milage pay. So, yes those jobs can be good for a driver that hustles and has a good work ethic.

Just another way to get you in nd if its was great as they claim it to be it should have been a waiting list nd new drivers weren't gonna be able to get that job because super trucker with 5 years or more experience comes first, go ahead nd believe them nd see what happen.

What Chinatown said is very accurate. You refuse any load your pay will be downdraded to mileage pay for that week. You cannot be late for any loads picking up or delivering unless its trk related. If trk or trl brakesdown and happened because you failed to do a pretrip or could have been discovered easily during your pretrip plan on catching hell from the company and again mileage pay for that week.I wouldn't trust this company with that salary pay, they'll find ways not to pay you.

For the most part they seem to be true as long as you do your job. I think we will see more of this in the future, it helps drivers when freight gets slow. Could be useful in keeping drivers in the industry.

I don't know about that, companies are having a time finding drivers because their insurance turns them down.So more and more are trying this approach along with increasing drivers pay and bonuses right now as i'm seeing it nothing is working.

US Express has a guaranteed 4700 mile payout for teams. From 2nd hand knowledge it works out ok - but you must be available for work that week.
Agree with Ethos - may become another tool in the bag of driver short companies.
OP - Get the fine print and go through it - there will be criteria - maybe not catches, but certainly a "your end of the deal" to be held up.double yellow Thanks this. -
Approach a Guaranteed type scam with an EYEBROW RAISED.....you will be expected to jump thru hoops everyday. CLEVER SCHEME !

Other companies I've been with seam to always come up with a (unpublished) list of "exclusions" for not paying for the things they advertised they would.
Only Drivers experienced with that company would be able to tell you the truth. -
Im surprised how many people will sign something without reading it.
They want to sign you to a contract. Take it home, and read it, preferably while sipping on some coffee or a coke. Take your time. Know the details and find out if you can live with them and that they cover your monthly expenses regardless of your performance. Make sure you get a base rate you need, with or without incentives or deductions.
Its safe to assume that all trucking companies are full of #### and out for themselves. Paying you as little as they can for the most they can get out of you. This is fact. And if you take care of yourself first, you cant blame them. Dont take a contract without spending some time shopping around unless you need to, then think of it as short term and keep your eyes out for a better deal.
One thing I have found in the logistics industry..
Smaller companies will pay a lot better if you can find something solid.
My current contract is for 120g a year. Local. No weekends. Variable 6 to 12hr days over the year. Within 50mi. 50mi + and after hrs and weekends negotiable price and acceptance. I have my own equipment (53' trailer and 44g max load.) Keep an eye out and talk to people at your stops (other drivers, shippers, consignees). Get in the door, then look hard for the better deals.slowpoke89 Thanks this.
