I say all this because i tried per mile minimum rate needed and it never worked. Try to drive less make more. Pay less and keep more. Ern more and pay less tax and keep cost of operation as low as possible. As stated i am w2 to myself. I laid me off during our covid. Rate drop. Had i not saved and had low cost i would not be running today. Keep up on your truck the DOT are out and about and will take the sub $2 a mile a rate and then some out of your pocket. And if you think it costs too much to fix such as brakes tires or whatever.. Imagine how much more it costs when it breaks when you don't want it too or you get an OOS and still gotta replace it at now almost triple the cost. I'm not the best at this trucking game but I know I know toms more then others and I'm always trying to learn. If you own the truck you need to pretend you are DOT and get under it and check it regularly for any and everything. And if you don't know how to fix a truck better find a good Tech. Shops in my area are 150 to 160 an hr. I fix my truck myself and have spent 2500 in parts alone some weeks

Do you drive 10k monthly every month?
    Are the rates always stable?
Do fuel cost go up and down?
Does one month you truck suck up money like a sponge ? Maybe it could be 2 months or even worse 3 months of nonstop stupid problem after problem. That gives you downtime? 10k for miles is hard to do if you got your truck in the shop for a week or 3. New trucks break too and might be under warranty but warranty don't pay good so it sits on the back burner. And used. Try to figure what will break or need replaced before it needs it and might be lucky you have it in stock and get an open bay

I count it as a truckload every time. If you haul 5k lbs 20ft of a 53ft truck for 1000 miles are you gonna ask a dollar a mile? Or 2..? Its a truckload. More then half the time it gets a seal and at the receiver , security checks it . so 1/4 or full does it matter? If i could pick something up in route and make apointment time im all for making more
