This is definitely off subject (it really deserves it's own thread and should be a sticky) for this thread but I feel it is soooooo important to shed a little light on the MRSA Staph infection thing.
It is actually turning into an epidemic that seems to be a big secret. How do I know, well I had the exact same thing happen to me last Sept. What was originally diagnosed as a brown recluse spider bite (apparently it is misdiagnosed in this manner at an alarming rate, much of the medical community seems to be oblivious to this thing, my own research on the web is the only reason I was finally diagnosed) turned out to be CA-MRSA. I even had three different doctors tell me it was a spider bite and only because I was insistent on a culture being taken was it properly diagnosed.
This is one nasty little bug and it kills more people on a yearly basis than AIDS does and the medical profession can do nothing to help many people that contact it. The Hospital acquired strain is far more deadly, but the Community acquired strain can be deadly too.
The CA strain used to be prevalent mostly in gyms and sports complex areas, but it is becoming a problem in public restrooms and the like also. As truck drivers that take showers in less than ideal circumstances we must take great care in assuring cleanliness. I strongly suggest using a quality anti-bacterial soap such as Hibiclens (light green bottle and found in most drug stores) at least once a week in addition to your usual soap. Use extra effort in cleaning under fingernails, hair and the inner nostrils. Also get yourself some anti-bacterial wipes and use them after using a public facility.
This is one nasty painful little bug that eats away at your flesh and it is not a pleasant experience. It starts with what appears to be a bug bite or pimple and continues to get worse. A small bump under the skin grows to the size of a large egg and the area will start to feel very hot to the touch. I also developed a high fever, cough and dizziness (similar to the onset of the flu) and the skin eventually opened up and some really icky (highly infectious as I later learned) stuff started to leak out.
By the time it was all said and done, I was out of work for 10 days (I was lucky to get back that soon) and it was almost 2 months before the wound healed and to this day I get a continuous itch/tickle from the scar area.
I'm a very healthy person and have never been in a hospital or required a doctors assistance for a sickness in my life. I am also a very clean person and shower on a regular basis, so this whole thing came as quite a shock to me. Not to mention it scared the hell out of me.

It seems to me I heard of a guy at the Kingman hospitial, last year, having this infection. He was only 36 yrs old and he died. It came on him quick, how I don't recall. I don't think anyone knew how he contracted it.
Truck stops have way to much traffic. One things for sure everybody needs to wash their hands anytime the have chance. I got in the practice washing no matter how much of a hurry Im in. I heard of take skin eating disease. I notice some drivers rush out of the restrooms without washing their hands. Infection and flu etc are spread this way.
Thanks for letting us know. It's a reminder to all of us.
As for losing your ambition there is plenty of reason for, not just you, but for many people to lose it. We are being crushed by evil forces, from all directions.
Get well soon.Last edited: Jun 15, 2008

, at least not for my aroma ).That is probably why I haven't had the flu or even a bad cold in forever. And it's also why I am accepting my time off, so I don't infect anyone else. I think the precautions I took until I got home were enough, since I practice the same precautions at home, and no one here has been infected, and they are in daily contact with me. I will have to get that green stuff mentioned... But I also read in my research on this bug, that a clorox solution will kill it on surfaces as well. I am thinking about keeping a small bottle with me in my shower bag. Just as long as I can keep it from spilling... Lord know I don't need any tie dyed clothes.
The 36 yr old you spoke about must have had the full blown MRSA... If you don't catch it early, it can be deadly. It can infect your lungs, heart, blood. Then it's a whole lot harder to kill without killing you. Much like CA-MRSA, if not caught, the complications are deadly. There is another strain that is worrying the medical community more, its called V-MRSA. It's the strain that is becoming drug resistant to the only antibiotic that is effective against regular MRSA (vancomycin). And they are years from developing another drug that works.
And I did start a new thread in another part of this forum. Pretty much the same info I have stated here, but in case others may not be active in this thread.
Soon we all my be walking around in moon suits. I guess the movie 'boy in the plastic bubble' wasn't just a story, it was a prediction as to what we all may face.

Supersnackbar, sounds like you are dealing with a lot of depression right now, also. Depression is a very real disease and needs medical attention; I hope you talk to your doctor, minister, or other neutral person.
My husband had MRSA infection after surgery, the doctor kept telling us that if the Vancomycin didnt work they would have to amputate his leg. He spent three weeks on IV Vancomycin in the hospital and 4 weeks at home on IV antibiotic, he had a port in and I hooked him up three times a day. We had to borrow money from our retirement account just to survive (and you know they penalize you if take any money out early from retirement plan) it was scary, depressing, anger and then Thank God, he came out fine. I hope everything works out for you at the end of the day.

I get the sense doctor's don't want to talk about this infection. I wounder were it came from. We have a disease people around the country are catching from tomatoes. 80% of tomatoes come from Mexico. Are we being contaminated by Mexico, and other third world people our gov. is letting flood into our once safe country? I think so.
There's another why to look at this, our gov. and corporations will benifit from the development of a another new aspect of the medical industry. Good for capitialism.Last edited: Jun 15, 2008

Stay out of terminals as long as you can if you love your 65. We pulled into Indianapolis terminal and this is TRUE hubby didn't even have the truck parked and a mechanic ran out to our truck and opened the door and started hooking up a computer gadgit. Hubby had not turned the key off yet, and when he did, the cute little on the ball mechanic said hubby turned off the motor on purpose to mess up the program!!!!!!! I have never seen a crete mechanic move so fast. As soon as he had us set, there was a driver that almost escaped with his 65, but NO, the super fast mechanic ran to the drive way and stopped the truck from leaving.
So don't think you can sneeek in and out of a terminal, the mechanics are on guard! -
Every truck on the road is passing us, evan a school bus.
-
Dont tell anyone, but - I got passed by a U-Haul truck!!!
I heard the best places to catch MRSA is hospitals, I guess nurses get this all the time..?? I heard this on XM 171 from truckin bozo.
I am wondering if others have this problem= I cannot watch a movie/DVD in my truck without the truck turning on/off which screws up the movie because it turns my TV off everytime... I stopped watching movies because of this and only watch regular TV now if I can get a good signal.?
I cant wait until I get into a truck with an APU and start using a microwave.
Also I'm 2000 miles over on my B service, how long before they same something? If Salt Lake isnt busy I might swing in to get it done, but I'm not to anxious about dropping down to 62 yet. DRIVE SAFE -
I was just at the Columbus terminal yesterday getting fuel and no one approached me(it helps that Im ugly) asking to pull into the shop. All the bays looked full anyway.
I dont think the 62mph will be too bad. I ran from GA to MA at 62 for S&G and it was ok. -
Wow, SSnackbar. Sorry to hear about the infection. Get well soon.
I got lucky with the 62 mph thing coming off my home time. I got in the truck and immediately got a load that was already late for pickup. I had to get fuel before leaving and the guy in the fuel isle who is usually fairly pleasant to deal with told me to go back around and get in line to turn the truck down. I told him I was under load and was already late but he very rudely told me it didn't matter. His whole tone was as if I had done something wrong by not taking the intiative to have already volunteered for a $1.23 per hour paycut in most states. He actually used to be a driver! Bizarre ... So, I sent a QComm to dispatch explaining what was going on and pulled around back. Fortunately, the computer they use to turn the truck down wasn't working at the time. By the time I found that out, I also had a QComm message saying, "They have until Oct to do that. We need you to get the load please go get it." So, off I went ... Mwahaha I'm not going near a terminal unless it's late at night on a weekend until well after my B service is due if I can help it ...
